Martha Stewart Sparks Backlash Over Controversial ‘Hungry Person’ Halloween Costume New

Martha Stewart Sparks Backlash Over Controversial ‘Hungry Person’ Halloween Costume

Updated 17:21 1 Nov 2026 GMTPublished 17:07 1 Nov 2026 GMTShe's since taken one of the posts with the costume downMartha Stewart has been criticised for a Halloween costume where she appeared to be dressed as a poor person holding up a sign saying she was hungry and in need of help.Strange Halloween costumes are par for the course in celebrity world, with Heidi Klum typically taking the cake, but there was a lot of backlash for Martha Stewart as she shared pictures of her spooky season costume to social media. An Instagram post featured some of her candles in a carousel of images, but the most controversial one was an apparent Halloween costume of a poor person with a sign saying: "I am hungry. Help me!!"The post is still up on Facebook (Facebook/Martha Stewart)AdvertA similar post is still on her Facebook account at time of writing, while over on Instagram her next post had comments turned off and she hasn't yet engaged with various other comments criticising the post elsewhere."We all saw, Martha," one person commented under her new post, followed by: "Are you trolling us after last nights post?".Another meanwhile asked: "Nah, where that other post?" after it appeared to have been removed.Someone else said 'the level of out of touch is stellar' as others pointed out it was in 'poor taste' to dress up like someone going through financial hardship for a funny costume."I’m not particularly sensitive to Halloween costumes, but this is upsetting… she’s standing outside her mansion wearing this," one Reddit user penned.Others questioned whether it was an 'AI deepfake hack' as they thought it might not be real, but Stewart's account has taken the post down and offered no explanation as to what else it might be but a Halloween costume.Martha Stewart has received a lot of backlash for the picture (Arturo Holmes/Getty Images for God's Love We Deliver)There were however a handful of voices saying they thought the costume was 'hilarious' and something they really enjoyed, as one person commented: "It's Halloween ppl. My gosh not everything is meant to be taken so serious."Another said: "Can everyone just calm down?"Stewart is famously obsessed with Halloween and has debuted dozens of highly elaborate costumes over the decades for magazine covers and parties.A blog post on her website lists many of her most memorable looks over the years, including a regal outfit as the Queen of Halloween for her 2024 cover of Martha Stewart Halloween, and as 'FairyGrand Martha', showing her in a flowy pink dress and wand as she cosplayed as a fairy godmother. And, in 2017, she donned a look inspired by Roy Lichtenstein's pop art, wearing a blonde wig and heavy makeup to create a 2D comic book effect on her face and clothing.Halloween may be over for another year, but if you were thinking of cosplaying as as someone in need of food you might want to reconsider your costume choice.LADbible Group has contacted Martha Stewart's representatives for comment.Featured Image Credit: Kristina Bumphrey/Variety via Getty ImagesTopics: Celebrity, Halloween, Social Media

Macaulay Culkin Sparks Backlash Over His Halloween Face Paint New

Macaulay Culkin Sparks Backlash Over His Halloween Face Paint

Published 15:59 1 Nov 2026 GMTThe color of his face paint and the lighting in the photos have split opinion on X and RedditMacaulay Culkin’s Halloween outfit this year has become the subject of heated discussion across social media. The actor dressed up as the soldier from the famous ‘thousand-yard stare’ World War II meme, wearing an army hat and dark green camouflage face paint, according to posts on X.His look has since drawn criticism, with some users on X and Reddit saying the paint resembled blackface, while others have rushed to defend Culkin. The row centers on how the costume appeared in images shared online. Under reddish lighting, the dark green camouflage paint was mistaken by some users for blackface, although defenders have stressed that it was military green.AdvertReaction to the costume has been mixed on X. One user wrote: “It’s not a blackface, but it’s kinda inappropriate and clueless considering how many war conflicts happening in the world today.”Their comment does not describe the paint as blackface. Instead, it takes issue with the costume itself, citing the number of conflicts taking place around the world.Other users reacted in different ways. One wrote: “I'm so used to the Ishowspeed version,” while IceY posted: “This year’s Halloween costumes aren’t scary.”Those defending the actor have focused on the color of the paint. Commenters said it was military green, chosen to match the soldier portrait the costume was based on.They also said the dispute stems from how the images were lit and from how the source material was read. In their view, critics had misinterpreted both. The conversation has also spread to Reddit, where a thread about the costume was posted in the r/popculturechat community.Celebrity Halloween costumes have a long history of sparking backlash.Julianne Hough dressed as Uzo Aduba’s 'Crazy Eyes' character from Orange Is the New Black, with a controversial use of blackface. (Getty Images/AKMGSI)Julianne Hough apologized on Twitter after dressing as Uzo Aduba’s character in Orange Is the New Black in 2013, when she was criticized for covering her face in dark makeup.Jason Aldean wore blackface for a Lil Wayne costume in 2015, while Colton Haynes later apologized for painting his face to dress as Kanye West in 2011 and Gandhi in 2012.Hilary Duff and Jason Walsh faced criticism in 2016 for dressing as a pilgrim and a Native American, with Duff saying the costume ‘was not properly thought through’.Elsewhere, Hindu leaders demanded an apology from Heidi Klum in 2008 after she dressed as the goddess Kali.A month after Steve Irwin’s death in 2006, Bill Maher wore Irwin-inspired clothing with a bloody stingray barb in his chest and refused to apologize. In 2012, Chris Brown also generated controversy when he posted a photo of himself and friends wearing beards, turbans and assault weapons.Featured Image Credit: Instagram/@Culkamania

Macaulay Culkin Sparks Backlash Over His Soldier Meme Halloween Costume

Updated 17:27 1 Nov 2026 GMTPublished 16:48 1 Nov 2026 GMTSome users spotted exactly what meme the actor was meant to have recreated with the selfieActor Macaulay Culkin has faced backlash on social media over a Halloween selfie he posted with some deeming it 'inappropriate'.Users hit out after he shared a selfie online showing him with dark coloured face paint while he posed straight-faced for the camera. The Home Alone star seemed to actually be dressed as a popular internet reaction image, showing a blank-looking soldier which is used to convey extreme mental exhaustion or distress by mundane, everyday situations. The photo sparked some backlash on the likes of X and Reddit, where the post was said to have been in poor taste and potentially offensive.AdvertHowever other users online noticed exactly what he was trying to harmlessly recreate, which was actually the 'thousand-yard stare' soldier meme. The stark look attracted criticism online, with some users on the likes of X and Reddit claiming the paint resembled blackface and was poorly-timed due to current ongoing world conflict.Others rushed to defend him for the fancy dress costume, reiterating it was quite clearly a military green-coloured face paint he had used in order to emulate the grubby face of a soldier and should not be taken seriously.Culkin is yet to publicly address the response (Kevin Mazur/Getty Images)Costume appeared to be popular meme"It’s not a blackface," one user responded on X. "But it’s kinda inappropriate and clueless considering how many war conflicts happening in the world today.”"I get what you were trying to do but this is by far the worst way to execute it," penned another. However others hit back in a Reddit r/popculturechat community and on X, making the clear comparison to the meme, which is based on a 1940s painting. The 'thousand-yard stare' meme (Thomas Lea.)It was only later that the image was internet-repurposed as visual shorthand for intense burnout. One user wrote: "It's obviously green/olive paint that they use as camouflage."As another added: "Macaulay Culkin nailing the thousand-yard stare soldier meme is a top tier Halloween costume" followed by: "It's sad ppl think this is anything other than the thousand yard stare."And, an AI-correction on X clarified the image, responding: "The image shows Macaulay Culkin with green face paint recreating the thousand-yard stare meme from a 1944 Tom Lea painting of a grimy WWII US Marine, not blackface."LADbible has contacted Macaulay Culkin's representatives for comment.Featured Image Credit: Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for Academy Museum of Motion PicturesTopics: Macaulay Culkin, TV and Film, Halloween, Celebrity

Why Ariel Winter Walked Away From Hollywood After Nearly 20 Years New

Why Ariel Winter Walked Away From Hollywood After Nearly 20 Years

Updated 19:36 31 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 12:41 31 Oct 2026 GMTThe actress also revealed who she moves in with whenever she heads back to California for workAfter spending almost 20 years in Hollywood, Modern Family star Ariel Winter decided it was time for a change. The actress, who grew up in Los Angeles playing Alex Dunphy in the hit sitcom, has since swapped the hustle and bustle of the city for a quieter life in Tennessee, where she can enjoy a little more privacy and a different pace of life.Winter bought a $2.9 million property in College Grove, Tennessee, in May 2022 and has been splitting her time between the Nashville area and Southern California ever since. While leaving Los Angeles offered her the fresh start she had been looking for, the move hasn’t been without its challenges, particularly when it comes to leaving friends and loved ones behind.AdvertSpeaking about her decision, Winter explained that she wanted to experience something different after growing up in the same city for most of her life.Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould costarred on Modern Family from 2009 to 2020. (Photo by Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic)She also revealed how getting away from the paparazzi and having the chance to live a more normal life played a major role in her decision to leave Hollywood behind. Now, with her career taking a different direction through voice acting, Winter has found a way to balance life away from Los Angeles with her ongoing work in the entertainment industry. In comments reported by OK!, the Modern Family star explained what drove the move.“I grew up in L.A. and just really wanted a change of pace,” she said. “L.A. is busy, and I was hoping to just get away a little and see what that change does for me. I wanted seasons and snow! I also wanted to get away from paparazzi, and just live a normal life, and it gave me that!”Life in Tennessee has come with a trade-off, though. “I don’t really love L.A., but I have all of my people there, which I think is what makes it really tough to leave,” she admitted.Winter has previously reflected on the move. “I just left the city of L.A. It holds some not-great memories for me, and I’m young and never lived anywhere else, and thought, ‘Why not?’ If you’re no longer on a network show that shoots there, you don’t really have to be there, and if I get a network show, I can easily go back,” she said.Settling near Nashville has not cut her ties to her hometown, and she still returns for work and personal visits. To keep things familiar on those trips, she moved in with Nolan Gould, who played her younger brother Luke Dunphy on the show.Winter played Alex Dunphy, and the pair costarred from 2009 to 2020.“That is my brother. Best friends since the beginning. We are family without a doubt. I love him so much. He’s the best, and living together is so fun. It’s just been the best experience ever,” she gushed. In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, she said: “Living with Nolan is so fun. Honestly, it’s so sweet and it’s so fun. It’s just wonderful to live with Nolan and to get to spend so much time with him.”She also revealed in that interview that she was dating one of Gould’s best friends, though she did not name him.Nolan Gould played Luke Dunphy, the younger brother of Winter’s character Alex, on Modern Family. (Photo by Lila Seeley/Getty Images)What is Ariel Winter doing now?Her career has shifted alongside her address. Winter voices Sabrina Grimm in The Sisters Grimm, a six-episode Apple TV+ series released on October 2.Because her latest roles center on voice acting rather than on-camera filming, splitting her time across states suits her professional commitments well.“You’re getting a little character to bring to life, and it’s really, really cool. But also, I just think I’ve been really lucky to have some really incredible animated projects put in front of me and some amazing characters that I think are really positively influential for young people, and so I’ve been really excited about that,” she reflected.Since Modern Family ended, her projects have also included Phineas and Ferb, American Dad and Star Trek: Lower Decks.Featured Image Credit: Unique Nicole/Getty ImagesTopics: Hollywood, Celebrity

Why The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s Dinner Scene Became Unbearable New

Why The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s Dinner Scene Became Unbearable

Published 14:28 31 Oct 2026 GMTThe actor who played Leatherface said everyone was 'slightly insane' by the end of the shootConditions during a brutal 27-hour-long shoot filming one of the most famous scenes in 1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre have been described as ‘intolerably putrid'.The notorious horror movie, which was effectively banned for 24 years by the British Board of Film Classification, features teenagers impaled on meat hooks, chairs made of human body parts and masks made of skin. It’s partly inspired by the horrific crimes of Ed Gein.If you think it’s hard to watch, it was even worse for the cast and crew. Made on a shoestring budget of $140,000, it’s safe to assume everyone didn’t have the creature comforts you’d expect on a Hollywood blockbuster.Temperatures while shooting in the brutal Texas heat rose to 46C, and the vast majority of the macabre body parts you see on screen were real human and animal remains.AdvertThe dinner scene was a nightmare to shoot (Bryanston Distributing Company)Quoted in Leatherface actor Gunnar Hansen’s book Chain Saw Confidential, art director Rob Burns says they ‘used parts of eight cows… a cat, two deer, three goats, two real human skeletons, one chicken’.As you might expect in blistering heat, it absolutely stank.Hansen said: “The bones and hides and animal parts were letting off a rich mix of fumes.”Things came to a head when filming the infamous dinner scene, where final girl Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns) is strapped to a chair as Leatherface and his cannibal family prepare to kill and eat her.John Dugan, the 20-year-old who played the corpse-like Grandpa Sawyer, refused to undergo the 10-hour makeup process more than once.Grandpa actor John Dugan refused to apply the prosthetics twice (Bryanston Distributing Company)That meant the team were forced to shoot all of his scenes in one go, including the climactic dinner scene.Filming stretched on for 27 hours. As well as sleep deprivation, the cast had to contend with the stench of the carcasses… and each other. The tiny budget meant actors only had a single set of clothes. Hansen, forced to wear a wool suit and latex mask as Leatherface, admitted to being ‘soaking wet’ underneath his costume.Joseph Lanza writes in his 2019 book The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Film That Terrified a Rattled Nation: “The conditions on that long night that bled into the following day were intolerably putrid.Leatherface actor Gunnar Hansen was 'soaking wet' under his costume (Bryanston Distributing Company)“The heat and humidity outside and inside were so high… [that the cast] had to run outside for oxygen and periodic vomit breaks.”Edwin Neal, who plays the Hitchhiker, was quoted by Yahoo Movies as saying that if he ever saw director Tobe Hooper again he might kill him.He said filming the dinner scene ‘was the worst time of my life… and I had been in Vietnam, with people trying to kill me, so I guess that shows how bad it was’.Hooper told Esquire he was aware on-set that ‘everyone hated me’, adding: “My memory of shooting this film is that it was miserable and hot and very hard work.”Edwin Neal (pictured) said it was worse than Vietnam (Bryanston Distributing Company)While Hansen said: “The whole dinner scene is burned in my memory, I think just because of the misery of it."At that point we were really just on the verge of mental collapse. And Marilyn told me about how awful it was for her, because she was terrified... Just being tied to a chair and then having these men looming over her constantly, she said it was really unnerving.“I think that whole scene was certainly the most intense part of the movie and I think all of us were slightly insane by then."So if you’re sticking on Texas Chain Saw Massacre this Halloween, the reason everyone looks so unhinged in that dinner scene might be because they were actually all losing their minds in real life. And spare a thought for what it must have smelled like.Featured Image Credit: Bryanston Distributing CompanyTopics: Halloween

Ulric Collette’s Merged Family Portraits Reveal Striking Genetic Resemblances

Ulric Collette’s Merged Family Portraits Reveal Striking Genetic Resemblances

Published 16:42 31 Oct 2026 GMTHe said the images featuring his own family were particularly precious to himA photographer with a penchant for merging the portraits of family members together into one face got the idea from a project he was doing with his son, and the results are striking.Canadian artist Ulric Collette developed the Genetic Portraits series after doing a year-long self portrait project with his son where he wanted to combine what the two of them looked like and see if it would recreate how his own face had looked as a child. While he was putting it together he found the results fascinating and decided he wanted to further explore the idea with other members of his family. The results create a face of many features, some childlike and some clearly belonging to an adult, capturing the similarities and differences in the family resemblance.AdvertThe photographer said the merging of pictures of his daughter and her grandmother meant a lot to him (Ulric Collette Genetic Portraits)Starting the series back in 2008, Quebec-based photographer Ulrich takes a picture of two relatives in the same light and framing and then merges half of the image with the corresponding other half."Two portraits touched me deeply," the photographer explained of the ones which turned out closest to his liking."The first is my daughter Ismaëlle with my mother Ginette, taken when Ismaëlle was 13. The similarities are obvious and striking. The second is a portrait of me with my father, made one year before he passed away. I consider it something precious."Most of the people he approached to be part of Genetic Portraits were because they resembled each other, and even when two relatives didn't seem much like each other it was easier to spot with their faces lined up togther.Ulric said the picture he made of himself and his father was 'precious' to him (Ulric Collette Genetic Portraits)"That resemblance often lives in small details: the way someone smiles, their expressions, the wrinkles around the eyes that follow the same lines," he added of where best it was to look for the signs."Even when there seems to be little resemblance at first glance, there is always some."While there were similarities between the pictures the photographer said that it ends up being 'a mix not a copy', noting that even if certain details line up perfectly others won't.He also pointed out that since he gets to choose which side of the face to use and where to line them up he created his 'own interpretation of their resemblance'.Sometimes the details show how much people really look like each other, as this combination of a son and mother shows (Ulric Collette Genetic Portraits)The pictures he's taken and combined show how alike and dissimilar people can look from each other at the same time.He said: "Everyone wonders what they got from their parents, and these images give a partial but very concrete answer. I think that’s why people connect with the series."I always do the session with all participants present, and what stays with me most is the bond between them. "The people who choose to take part in the project usually share a real closeness, and I think that comes through in the images too."Collette isn't the only photographer who likes to share the contrast between two similar images, as Steven Burton developed his own project showing people what they'd look like without tattoos.Featured Image Credit: Ulric Collette Genetic PortraitsTopics: Art, Community, Parenting

Why Governments Want You Ready for 72 Hours Without Power or Water

Published 15:28 31 Oct 2026 GMTAround 40% of people admit they would struggle to protect their household during a major emergency Households are being encouraged to prepare for the possibility of going three days without essential services, with emergency preparedness advice highlighting the supplies people should have ready before disaster strikes.Losing access to electricity, running water or phone service can quickly disrupt everyday life, particularly if severe weather or another unexpected emergency makes it difficult to leave home. The recommendation is to have enough essentials available to manage independently for 72 hours, including drinking water, food, medication and ways to stay informed if normal services become unavailable.According to the British Red Cross, preparing in advance can help households manage short-term disruption and avoid being caught without essential supplies.AdvertA power outage could leave people unable to charge their phones, cook meals or keep their homes warm. Meanwhile, interruptions to water supplies could affect everything from drinking and washing to preparing food.Losing internet access or phone signal could create further difficulties, making it harder to contact loved ones, receive important updates or access online services.Emergency preparedness guidance recommends having enough essential supplies to manage for 72 hours. France recommends having enough essential supplies to last 72 hours, while Germany advises residents to prepare for a longer period of up to 10 days. Japan, which has extensive experience preparing for earthquakes, considers three days the minimum and encourages households to aim for a week where possible. There are also growing concerns that hostile states, cyberattacks and sabotage could disrupt critical infrastructure, potentially affecting everyday services without a conventional military attack.According to CNBC, having enough supplies to manage the first three days of an emergency gives authorities and emergency responders time to deal with the immediate aftermath of a crisis. For example, during severe flooding, emergency crews must prioritize rescuing people whose lives are in immediate danger, carrying out evacuations and keeping essential services such as hospitals operational. As a result, other households may need to rely on their own food, water and essential supplies while the emergency response gets underway. The 72-hour target also offers a practical balance, providing a buffer during major disruptions without requiring families to store excessive amounts of food and other necessities.Drinking water and food that does not require cooking are among the recommended emergency supplies. Households should consider signing up for relevant weather and flood alerts and familiarizing themselves with the risks that could affect their local area.Preparing does not have to mean spending a lot of money or buying everything immediately.Starting with supplies already available at home and gradually adding missing essentials can make the process more manageable. Even a small box, bag or cupboard can provide enough space to store the most important items. The goal is to have a practical plan and the essentials needed to get through three days if everyday services are suddenly disrupted.Featured Image Credit: Getty Stock Image Topics: World News

Maya Jama Sparks Reactions With Charity Gesture After Celebrity Traitors Exit

Maya Jama Sparks Reactions With Charity Gesture After Celebrity Traitors Exit

Updated 16:03 31 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 15:46 31 Oct 2026 GMTbreakingThey're still going to get the money from Maya JamaMaya Jama has announced she's donated what she would have won on Celebrity Traitors to her chosen charity, even though she didn't make it to the end.Sadly for the game-long Traitor she was banished at the roundtable and didn't last until the final firepit, which saw remaining Traitor King Kenny also booted off the show and Faithfuls Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian 'Bash' Croft winning the prize pot for their chosen charities.Everyone on Celebrity Traitors went into the show with a chosen charity they'd be donating their portion of the prize pot to, and Maya Jama had selected Action for Children. She confirmed her donation on social media today (31 October) as she called the group an 'amazing cause', and Action for Children works to help vulnerable children with issues such as poverty, abuse and finding a foster home.AdvertOver the course of the show the celebrities had amassed a prize pot of £83,000, which in the end was split equally between the two remaining winners.Ranganathan's charity was the Refugee Council, with him saying: "I am playing for the Refugee Council, helping displaced people who need help, and of course it’s very close to my heart. So I’m very, very grateful for this."Meanwhile Croft's share which amounts to £41,500 has gone towards Choose Love.“It’s an organisation that I used to volunteer at," Bash explained.“The money will be going to refugees and displaced people, but predominantly queer refugees and displaced people, and they are just the best organisation.”Even if her hopes of making it to the end were scuppered by the group finally wondering why players with no heat on them were still in, Maya Jama had a darn good run of things as she was there from the very beginning and lasted until almost the final hurdle.Action for Children has got the money even though Maya Jama didn't win Celebrity Traitors, which is nice of her to do (CARLOS JASSO / AFP via Getty Images)Her fans have said she's been 'absolutely incredible' on the show and off it since she's making sure the charity gets some money, while others called her an 'absolute queen' for doing so.Hailed for her 'superb act of kindness', the book is unfortunately closed on the latest series of Celebrity Traitors which proved to be hugely entertaining right from the moment Richard E Grant directly admitted to being a Traitor (just a few minutes after he'd been picked) right through to James Blunt realising he'd made a huge mistake by voting to keep the game going when it would obviously mean he was going.Featured Image Credit: Neil Mockford/WireImageTopics: Maya Jama, Celebrity, The Traitors, Charity
