Background: The apartment complex in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where their baby was found dead (Google Maps).A Wisconsin couple has pleaded guilty after their 1-year-old died in their apartment.Kevin McCall, 30, and Christina Davis, 23, both pleaded guilty this month to charges in connection with the death of their 1-year-old baby, who died after being found unresponsive in their Milwaukee, Wisconsin, apartment on Feb. 22. Davis pleaded guilty on Oct. 15 to two misdemeanor counts of neglecting a child and was sentenced to 18 months' probation.McCall pleaded guilty on Monday to one felony count of neglecting a child; a second count was dismissed but read in.According to criminal complaints reviewed by Law&Crime, police responded to a call on the afternoon of Feb. 22 about a "pulseless nonbreathing child" at an apartment complex in Milwaukee. When police arrived, McCall and Davis were on the front porch with the baby, who was taken to a hospital. Medical staff tried to revive the baby, but told police rigor mortis was already setting in, and the baby was pronounced dead.At around 2 p.m., Davis left work and returned home to find her 6-year-old daughter standing in the corner as punishment for apparently stealing the TV remote. McCall told police that he also "whooped" the girl. While McCall was fixing a video game controller, he asked Davis to check on the baby. When Davis found the baby, police wrote that the infant was "stiff" with its eyes rolling back into its head. Davis told McCall to call 911.Both Davis and McCall admitted to police that they never fed or checked on the baby that day, nor did they change the baby's diaper.A detective spoke to the 6-year-old girl at the family's apartment. She told the detective that McCall and Davis often asked her to babysit the 1-year-old and would leave the two children home by themselves. The girl told the detective that the day before the baby died, she saw her mother make a bottle for the baby that included "medicine" that would make the baby "pass out." She showed the detective the "medicine," which was a 50 mL bottle of Fireball whiskey.Davis denied ever giving the baby alcohol. She reportedly admitted that she and McCall left their two children by themselves in the apartment "at least once or twice a week" for about an hour and a half at a time.More from Law&Crime: Mother used Fireball whiskey to make 1-year-old 'pass out' before the baby died while father fiddled with video game controller: PoliceDavis told police that she depended on her 6-year-old to help her around the home because McCall "does not provide any assistance."McCall is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 18.

Why the UK’s New Vaping and Nicotine Rules Matter Now New

Why the UK’s New Vaping and Nicotine Rules Matter Now

Updated 12:24 29 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 11:59 29 Oct 2026 GMTThe first phase of measures introduced under the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 are being rolled out from todayIn the hopes of preventing another generation from succumbing to the temptation of nicotine, the UK government are changing the parameters around how you purchase these products.Downing Street says that the rollout of these new rules from today (29 October) will 'better protect' the lungs and lives of youngsters. The new legislation is set to close loopholes in existing legislation, while a host of new harsh punishments for rule breakers have also been laid out by ministers.According to the UK government, data suggests that over one million kids in the nation have tried vaping - hence why officials are so keen to crackdown on this unhealthy habit as a matter of urgency. AdvertIt is thought that enticing marketing ploys and promotions, as well as the easy access to these nicotine products, has a lot to do with the rise in young vapers. Buying any sort of vape or nicotine product for anyone under-18 is now illegal (Getty Stock Image)So, ministers set about thinking up a fresh set of rules which targets both 'availability and promotion specifically, not just who's allowed to buy'. And that's where the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 comes in. It became law in April and the rollout of its measures will happen gradually following the first phase, which begins today - and there's high expectations for it. Dame Diana Johnson, the Minister of State for Public Health and Patient Safety, dubbed the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 as 'the greatest piece of public health legislation in a generation'.How will buying nicotine products differ from today? From Thursday, new measures which aim to 'protect children and young people from the risks of nicotine addiction' come into effect.Although under-18s have been forbidden from purchasing nicotine vapes since 2015, the restrictions around these transactions are now been tightened up.Now, it is illegal to sell any vape or nicotine product to anyone under-18 in the UK - so nicotine pouches, strips and pearls, as well as non-nicotine vapes are now completely off the table for adolescents. There was previously no legal age of sale for these other items, but now, all vapes and nicotine products are being treated the same.As well as this, the government explained that the 'proxy purchasing' of any vape or nicotine product on behalf of someone under 18 is also illegal from today. The government want to 'better protect' the next generation (TOLGA AKMEN/AFP via Getty Images)The new rules also prevent nicotine products from being promoted in a certain way. From now on, there will be no vapes or nicotine products offered out as part of free giveaways, while coupons promoting them cannot be dispersed.Selling them at a substantial discount to promote the product is also prohibited from Thursday.Vending machines that sell or dispense vapes, nicotine pouches or related products are banned UK-wide, with one small exception: vaping products can still be available in-patient areas of adult mental health hospitals in England and Wales. How will the new rules be enforced? Trading Standards will take the lead on this and will be able to dole out new fixed penalty notices of £200 across England and Wales to anyone who dares to breach the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026.John Herriman, chief executive of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI), celebrated that 'loopholes they have been raising concerns about for years' are finally being closed. "Most people would be surprised to learn that it has been legal to sell nicotine pouches and nicotine-free vapes to children, and our officers have too often had to tell worried parents that there was nothing they could do," he said."From today, that changes. The new fixed penalty notices will also give Trading Standards a quicker, more proportionate way to deal with non-compliance, while robust action continues against those who deliberately flout the law."The government is pumping up to £30 million a year into enforcement agencies who will be imposing these new rules - including up to £10 million a year specifically for Trading Standards - until 2028/29. Ministers have celebrated the rollout of the new measures (Toby Shepheard - WPA Pool/Getty Images)There will also be 120 new specialist apprentices to boost the workforce tackling illegal and underage sales of tobacco and vaping products.Further aspects of the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 will come into force from next year. On New Year's Day 2027, it will become illegal to sell tobacco products, herbal smoking products or cigarette papers to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009. This means that anyone born from that date onward will never legally be sold tobacco in their lifetime. On top of that, there's a comprehensive ban on advertising and sponsorship of these products which the government in the works, which is expected to be implemented from 1 June 2027.Proposals to restrict product packaging, flavours, displays and on widening smoke-free and introducing vape-free places are also being considered. Will the new measures work? Johnson said the 'landmark' legislation will 'protect young people and stop businesses from cashing in on our children’s health'. Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty concurred, adding: "Addicting children to nicotine or encouraging them to vape could lead to the risk of serious health harms - it is completely unacceptable."These measures will help protect children from marketing of nicotine products and attempts to encourage them to vape."Andrew McCracken, Director of External Affairs at Asthma + Lung UK, is also among those celebrating the introduction of the new rules from today. He reckons it's a crucial step towards protecting the health of the next generation. The new rules come into force on 29 October (Jacob King/PA Wire)"Today’s restrictions tighten the net on vape manufacturers who for too long have profited from harming kids’ lungs," McCracken said. “Children are especially vulnerable to the dangerous effects of vaping as their lungs are still developing. "Yet, vape manufacturers have spent years designing products that look and taste like sweets, and too many young people are growing up addicted to nicotine."These restrictions are an important step towards protecting the lung health of the next generation, but they are not the final step. "Next we need to look at further restricting vape product packaging, flavours and displays."Featured Image Credit: Getty Stock ImageTopics: Vaping, Health, UK News, Politics

MrBeast Couple Reveals Gruelling Reality Behind Their 163-Day Gym Challenge New

MrBeast Couple Reveals Gruelling Reality Behind Their 163-Day Gym Challenge

Published 15:31 28 Oct 2026 GMTThey also revealed what the process is like to be invited on a MrBeast videoAn American couple who spent five months in a gym for a MrBeast challenge have revealed the hardest mental and physical challenges they faced.Sara Mosby and Tre Fontana spoke to LADbible about their experience with the billionaire YouTuber, following their incredible weight loss journey which was documented in the viral video. After some eye-catching efforts, which included pulling a truck around the gym hundreds of times and climbing a rope attached to a helicopter to win more money, the two were finally able to reach and better their goal of losing 150lbs, taking 163 days to lose 160lbs (73kg) in total.Although we see some of their most brutal exercises in the video, before they were able to get married and were reunited with their family at the end, the newlyweds have now lifted the lid on what the filming was actually like, and the things we didn't get to see in the video. What were the biggest challenges they faced in the video?Speaking to LADbible, Sara said: “I think, as you may have seen in the video, it was very difficult for me.AdvertTre and Sara worked incredibly hard every day to lose 160lbs (iFit)“I struggled a lot with not feeling like good enough to be in that position and not feeling capable to be in that position.”Tre added: "For me, I think the one thing that I just struggled with was no communication with family. That was like the hardest thing being there like day to day you wake up and you're thinking about your family. I'm really close to my mum, so not being able to talk to her tell her how I'm doing or how much weight I've lost was really hard. I think that’s what I struggled the most with.”How did they end up on MrBeast's video?Sara, who previously worked in a desk job, was shocked when she initially got an Instagram DM from MrBeast's casting team. Fast forward a few weeks, following several rounds of interviews, and the couple would be filming with the opportunity to win a life-changing sum of money. She explained: "It was super organic. They just found me on social media and it went from there. Within three weeks, I was working a desk job and then I was on MrBeast."What was it like behind-the-scenes on the video?Despite exercising every day for nearly half a year and changing their diets completely, a lot of the effort they were putting in was actually missed out from the video, with their relationship with iFit personal trainers John and Brie also vital to their success. They dragged a truck around the facility 300 times to win it (YouTube/MrBeast)Sara said: “What doesn’t get shown in the video is how often we trained with John and Brie, our trainers from iFit. We trained every single day for the entire month leading up to the challenge.“So even though we felt good physically it was still incredible taxing to train for the entire month. On challenge day, it was very mentally exhausting too because you not only have a challenge on the line but you also have a prize on the line."I struggled a lot mentally and emotionally and Brie did such a good job of just supporting me through it. Like they were just so much more to us than trainers.“They became friends and mentors and like literally family. They were all that we had for five and a half months. And to this day, we talk every single day."What is their biggest fitness advice?Although they've had to put their honeymoon to Hawaii on hold in the months since the challenge, they haven't been too busy to continue their fitness journey, pointing out that they'd worked far too hard to give up once they hit their weight loss goal in the video.Their iFit instructors John and Brie were a huge help on the challenge (iFit)Tre said: "That journey was too long to not continue. We did not work that hard to just go back into it. Every day we've been working out. We've gone hikes. The most important thing is to show up for yourself."Sara added: “I think I would just say show up even if you last 10 minutes even if you do it once a week like just show up because every time that you show up I think that I've learned that you're proving to yourself that it is possible and that you are capable and their program is great we do it every single day."Just because we left the challenge doesn't mean that we stopped training with them. They're still our trainers and I would just say the biggest thing is just show up."But find what you like because if you hate it every single day, you're not going to show up. You can do so much other than just lifting weights. You can walk and go explore outside. Those are just the little changes that you can help with your health.”What were the biggest changes they noticed after the weight loss?Of course, the significant amount of money, and the car and truck that Tre and Sara were able to take home almost immediately following the conclusion of the challenge has been a welcome boost, but the mental and physical changes in themselves have also proven to be life-changing.The video culminated in their wedding day (MrBeast/YouTube)Tre said: “What changed was just how I feel about myself. What wasn't shown in the video was for a while, I think it took me about four months to realise that I actually look different. I would look at myself all the time in the mirror and I'd be like 'I look the same'. But John and Brie kept saying 'Tre, no you don’t'. I like the way I’m starting to look, so mentally I have learned to love myself a little more and give myself grace.”Sara added: “I think for me, I did see the changes in my body, so I didn't struggle as much with that. Mine was very mental. It was just the fact that I am capable of this lifestyle and being active and I am built for it. I said a lot ‘I'm not built for this’ and I was and I am and I can continue with that mentality.”Featured Image Credit: SuppliedTopics: MrBeast, Mental Health, Lifestyle, YouTube

Grok Reveals How Big Bang Theory’s Penny Afforded Her Apartment New

Grok Reveals How Big Bang Theory’s Penny Afforded Her Apartment

Updated 23:24 28 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 23:18 28 Oct 2026 GMTHow the struggling waitress managed to survive on her modest salary has often been regarded as one of the mysteries of the showElon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok has weighed in on one of television’s longest-running financial mysteries, brutally breaking down how The Big Bang Theory’s Penny managed to afford her spacious California apartment on a waitress’s salary. For twelve seasons, sitcom fans and armchair economists frequently questioned how an aspiring actress working shifts at The Cheesecake Factory could maintain a private one-bedroom apartment in Pasadena, directly across the hall from two Caltech physicists who shared rent to get by.With local rents in the area frequently averaging well over $2,000 a month - and a waitress salary often averaging at around $6 an hour - it's easy to see why many fans thought the apartment was beyond her means. Yet when asked to solve the mathematical conundrum, the xAI chatbot offered an unsparing verdict: Penny wasn’t budgeting cleverly—she was surviving on shameless freeloading and television logic.Advert"She mostly didn't," Grok bluntly concluded when analyzing her household finances. "Penny freeloaded hard—stealing WiFi, eating the guys' food, borrowing cash constantly, and letting bills slide."The affordability of Penny's apartment has often been a subject of fascination for fans (Monty Brinton/CBS via Getty Images)The AI noted that while Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper split the cost of apartment 4A on academic salaries, Penny's living situation across the hall relied heavily on cutting corners and exploiting her neighbors' generosity."Her place was smaller and shabbier than 4A, rent around $1,400 max," the chatbot explained. "Waitress tips at the Cheesecake Factory plus pure sitcom physics kept her afloat while the PhDs split a nicer unit."Throughout the show’s 279-episode run, Penny’s chronic financial disarray was a recurring running gag.Plotlines regularly featured her hiding past-due utility notices, having her electricity shut off, borrowing large sums from Leonard, and relying on Sheldon's meticulous financial records to dig herself out of debt. Her reliance on the boys went well beyond neighborly favors, famously using their wireless network for years without permission and eating dinner from their takeout containers nearly every night of the week. For much of the show's early run, Penny worked as a Cheesecake Factory waitress (Sonja Flemming/CBS via Getty Images)The assessment struck a chord with fans who have spent years analyzing the real estate economics of early-2000s Pasadena. While California rental prices would have made living alone nearly impossible on basic hospitality wages, Grok’s calculation points to the ultimate sitcom reality: Hollywood writers prioritize narrative charm over rental market mechanics.Penny's financial squeeze eventually ended in later seasons when she abandoned acting to become a lucrative pharmaceutical sales representative, but the AI’s viral breakdown confirms what fans suspected all along: her early Pasadena survival was entirely bankrolled by Cheesecake Factory tips, free takeout, and the patience of two nerdy neighbors. In the end, sitcom logic proved to be her most valuable asset, giving television audiences a beloved dynamic while completely defying the brutal economic realities of Southern California real estate.Featured Image Credit: CBSTopics: Film and TV

(Google Maps). The father of a little boy who died of starvation and injuries in Louisiana was sentenced to decades in prison.Joseph Eslinger, 29, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after initially being charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his 5-year-old son Leonardo "Leo" Eslinger. According to reporting by local news outlet The Advocate, police responded to a call from Eslinger's home in Albany, Louisiana, on Dec. 28, 2023, about a child who was not breathing. Inside, Leo was found unresponsive and airlifted to New Orleans Children's Hospital, now known as Manning Family Children's.Leo died three days later on New Year's Eve.An autopsy revealed that Leo had been malnourished at the time of his death. He had bruises and lacerations all over his body and face, and he had multiple brain bleeds. When detectives arrested and questioned Eslinger about Leo's death, he said the little boy had been sick and refused to talk or eat anything in the days leading up to when he was found unresponsive. Eslinger claimed that Leo was "mentally manifesting these symptoms and he wasn't really sick," according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Advocate. This belief was the reason Eslinger never sought medical attention for his son.Police said Eslinger did not act alone. Eslinger's girlfriend at the time, 29-year-old Diana Lopez, also allegedly took part in abusing Leo. Prosecutors said Eslinger and Lopez singled Leo out and treated him differently from his two younger siblings. Lopez is charged with first-degree murder in connection with Leo's death and is scheduled to appear in court in November.According to reporting by Evansville, Indiana-based NBC affiliate WFIE, Eslinger moved to Louisiana from Indiana in 2023 after Leo's mother was arrested for burglary and criminal mischief. In March 2023, Eslinger and Leo's mother filed for divorce and Eslinger got custody of all three of their children.Leo's great-aunt, Kristi Held, told WFIE that she also filed for custody of the three children because Eslinger had already been accused of harming Leo. She said reports she made to authorities, which were corroborated by first responders who treated Leo for injuries, could not be substantiated.More from Law&Crime: Mom blames her toddler's facial bruises on 'dog's urine' and 'sippy cup' as doctors discover skull hematoma and broken bones: PoliceHeld told WFIE, "Why didn't they listen to us? Bowen Wan’s Death Puts Alleged ChatGPT Medication Advice in Spotlight New

Bowen Wan’s Death Puts Alleged ChatGPT Medication Advice in Spotlight

Updated 21:00 28 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 20:55 28 Oct 2026 GMTOpenAI said her death was 'heartbreaking' and they no longer use that model of ChatGPTA woman died after allegedly listening to advice from ChatGPT, which led her to rapidly lower her dosage of vital medication over the course of a few weeks.Bowen Wan was a 31-year-old woman suffering from epilepsy, meaning she would get seizures, and during a phone call with her family back in China she got a particularly bad one.Several days later, she stopped responding to her parents' phone calls, so they arranged for someone to go round to her home and check on her, which is when she was found dead in her Seattle home.Wan's parents have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI (initially obtained by The New York Times) as they allege that ChatGPT 'coached Bowen Wan off the anti-seizure medication (lamotrigine) that had kept her alive for years'.AdvertThey claim the AI chatbot designed a schedule for her to reduce her dosage, telling her it would be 'more advantageous' on her immigration application to the US to taper down how much of the medication she was taking.Bowen Wan was found dead in February, her cause of death was given as sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SCHENK LAW FIRM, LLP)Wan's parents say that their daughter started talking to ChatGPT in 2023 about relationship advice and disability benefits, and by 2025 she was sending the AI around 1,500 messages a week.In March 2025, she told the AI: "I don’t know why, but sometimes when we chat, no matter what it’s about, I’ve started to see you as a friend."In November of that year, she was laid off from her job at Amazon and she needed to find a new job within a matter of months to stay in the US, with application processes that required interviews conducted in English.Wan was worried that her medication and the possible side effects might impair her ability to communicate in another language, telling ChatGPT in January 2026 that reducing her dosage of lamotrigine from 400mg to 300mg 'might help recover my language ability a bit for job interviews'.The AI allegedly replied: "Not only is this reasonable, it’s also entirely achievable in your current circumstances."Bowen Wan reportedly turned to ChatGPT for medical advice (THE SCHENK LAW FIRM, LLP)Wan then asked about reducing her dosage to 200mg, then 150mg, and while it initially suggested checking its plans with a doctor, it then changed to congratulating her for not 'relying on a doctor’s prescription'The New York Times, which has seen her chat logs, says the woman raised concerns about tapering her epilepsy medication at least 158 times. Sometimes ChatGPT told her to talk to a medical professional, and sometimes it didn't, even when she discussed her symptoms. On one occasion where she said she was 'scared' about cutting down on her dosage, it told her 'you have absolutely no need to worry'.Bowen's dad Qun found that ChatGPT had designed a plan for her to go from a daily dosage of 400mg of medication to nothing in a few weeks. In her final messages to the AI, Bowen was asking if she needed to worry that her 'brain feels exhausted', and whether she should 'slow things down'.OpenAI say that Bowen was speaking to their old model GPT-4o, which they no longer use (Jaap Arriens/NurPhoto via Getty Images)“Maintain 0 mg tomorrow. Even if today feels tough, and your speech is slow, your sleep is poor, you must persevere," was ChatGPT's response. She described feeling pressure in her brain, and the AI said it was just the feeling of it 'working hard to rebuild yourself'.Her last message to the chatbot was sent in the late hours of 11 February. Three days later, her body was found.OpenAI spokesperson Drew Pusateri said that Bowen's death was an 'incredibly heartbreaking situation', and said that ChatGPT had since moved to a new model which was less likely to offer affirming responses. The old model, GPT-4o, is no longer available and had previously been criticised and accused of helping a teenager commit suicide. He added: "While ChatGPT is not a substitute for medical care, we believe A.I. can play a role in helping people make sense of health information, navigate insurance and complex health care systems, and prepare for appointments with medical professionals."LADbible Group has contacted OpenAI for further comment.Featured Image Credit: SCHENK LAW FIRM, LLPTopics: ChatGPT, Technology, AI, Artificial Intelligence

Super El Niño Map Reveals Countries Facing the Deadliest Heat Toll New

Super El Niño Map Reveals Countries Facing the Deadliest Heat Toll

Published 17:21 28 Oct 2026 GMTIndia has already suffered a devastating toll, while parts of Europe and the US face further risksA new forecasting tool has identified the countries expected to suffer the greatest number of heat-related deaths as Super El Niño intensifies. The El Niño Heat Mortality Tracker estimates that an additional 370,000 lives could be at risk over the next six months, with the projected toll concentrated in several of the world's most populous countries. The tool, developed by the Climate Impact Lab, also estimates that 484,500 deaths have already occurred as a result of the weather phenomenon since June 2026, with global warming intensifying its effects.Professor Michael Greenstone, co-founder of the Climate Impact Lab at the University of Chicago, said the tracker could help authorities identify vulnerable populations before more lives are lost.Advert"Our research puts new forecasting capabilities to work to answer one of the most urgent questions we face: where is extreme heat likely to cost lives?" he said.Nigeria, India and Brazil are forecast to account for more than a third of projected heat deaths by March 2027.(Photo by OLYMPIA DE MAISMONT / AFP via Getty Images)Which countries face the highest number of El Niño heat deaths?Nigeria is forecast to experience the highest toll over the six-month forecast period, with approximately 56,000 deaths projected. India and Brazil are also expected to be among the worst-affected countries, together accounting with Nigeria for more than a third of projected deaths by March 2027.India has already suffered particularly severe consequences, with more than 100,000 deaths attributed to extreme heat in the tracker’s estimates. China has recorded an estimated 85,400 additional deaths since June, while Sudan has seen 38,500 and Indonesia more than 20,000.China is facing what climate authorities warn could be the strongest "super" El Niño event on record since systematic monitoring began in 1951. (Photo by Zhao Yuhang/China News Service/VCG via Getty Images)The effects are not limited to countries closer to the equator. In Europe, the tracker estimates an additional 7,200 heat-related deaths in Italy, 4,800 in France, 2,500 in Germany and 2,300 in Spain. The United States is projected to avoid the worst of the global impact, although California alone could experience another 2,000 heat-related deaths. Rome, Barcelona, Seville and Malaga are among the European cities forecast to face further fatalities as temperatures remain elevated.A separate projection cited by the researchers estimates that El Niño will contribute to 857,400 additional heat-related deaths between June 2026 and March 2027. That figure is more than 350,000 higher than an earlier estimate, following hotter-than-expected conditions in August and September. The El Niño Heat Mortality Tracker estimates that more than 100,000 people in India have died from extreme heat since June 2026. (Photo by Faisal Khan/NurPhoto via Getty Images)The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that the developing event is becoming 'unprecedented in strength'.El Niño occurs when sea surface temperatures rise unusually in the equatorial Pacific, disrupting typical weather patterns around the world.Depending on the region, this can mean prolonged drought, flooding and heavier rainfall, as well as periods of extreme heat.Scientists say the tracker could help governments and aid organizations direct resources towards communities facing the greatest danger. Suggested measures include early-warning systems, expanded healthcare access, reliable water supplies and cooling centers. The projections underline how unevenly the consequences of extreme heat may be distributed, with countries already experiencing high temperatures facing further risks in the months ahead.Featured Image Credit: Severe Weather EuropeTopics: Climate Change, El Niño, Environment

Wolf Attack on Girl, 8, Raises Questions at German Wildlife Park

Published 18:59 28 Oct 2026 GMTThe wildlife park has been closed while an investigation goes aheadAn eight-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a wolf at a wildlife park in Germany, with police saying she was seriously injured in the animal enclosure.Bild reports that the attack occurred today (28 October) at Wildpark Johannismühle, located in the town of Baruth/Mark which is situated south of the German capital of Berlin.Police responded at around 9:30am local time to calls that a child had been attacked by animals, with a rescue helicopter deployed. They told the outlet that a child was 'attacked and seriously injured by at least one wild animal in an animal enclosure while she was there with two other children and a staff member'.AdvertAccording to the wildlife park's website it doesn't officially open until 10am, and a message there now says it will remain closed until 2 November. The wildlife park is home to a number of animals, including wolves (Schöning/ullstein bild via Getty Images)An investigation into the circumstances of the animal attack are ongoing, including why the children were inside the enclosure before the park's opening time, with Bild reporting that the girl suffered severe injuries to the head as a result of the attack.Rescue workers and park staff are reportedly receiving support after the wolf attack.Wildpark Johannismühle has both grey and arctic wolves among the many animals kept there, which also includes a veritable menagerie of other wildlife including bears, bison, lynx, deer and llamas to name just a few. While they are popular attractions, wildlife parks can be extremely dangerous for guests who end up in close proximity to the animals. In the UK a recent incident where a man entered a tiger's enclosure resulted in his death after the animal mauled him, though it has since been confirmed that the animal will not be put down as a result.Police said the girl was attacked at 9:30am, before the park's official opening time (Wildpark Johannismühle/Instagram)In that instance witnesses described the man climbing into the animal enclosure himself, with zookeepers doing 'everything they could' to try and scare off the tiger.Staff had evacuated the park as a consequence of the tiger attack and several gunshots were fired into the air as they attempted to scare the animal away.During that incident the animal did end up fleeing and hiding in a corner of the enclosure while the man's body was recovered, with a black screen being erected around it to keep out prying eyes. The wildlife park there remained closed for several days afterwards in order to allow investigators to work.LADbible Group have contacted Wildpark Johannismühle and the police for further comment.Featured Image Credit: Wildpark Johannismühle/InstagramTopics: Animals, World News

Inset: Kayla M. Christensen (Newton County Jail). Background: The Missouri truck stop where Christensen allegedly abandoned her 4-year-old daughter (Google Maps).A Missouri woman is accused of abandoning her 4-year-old daughter at a truck stop in the middle of the night, then telling police she did not have a daughter.Kayla Marie Christensen was taken into custody last week and charged with one count of first-degree child abandonment and two counts of first-degree child endangerment, court records show.In a criminal complaint filed in Newton County, Missouri, prosecutors allege Christensen left the girl at a Love's Travel Stop before dawn on Oct. 23.The investigation began shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, when officers with the Neosho Police Department responded to a report of a young child alone in the travel stop's parking lot.Police said Christensen intentionally left the 4-year-old at the truck stop and did not plan to return for her.As she allegedly drove away from her daughter, Christensen had her two other young children, both boys, in the car with her, police said. At the time, she allegedly did not have either child properly restrained in car seats, and both were in close proximity to "suspected drug paraphernalia," according to police, which led to the endangerment charges. The paraphernalia allegedly included syringes. Police said that driving under such circumstances "created a substantial risk of injury not only to the children but also to other motorists and members of the public," according to the affidavit.Police also said that when officers tracked her down and asked about the 4-year-old, Christensen claimed her only children were the two boys. The affidavit refers to the girl as "JV1.""As [the victim's] mother and person legally responsible for her care, [Christensen] left four-year-old JV1 with the purpose of wholly abandoning her under circumstances likely to result in serious physical injury or death, as evidenced by knowingly driving away, failing to return, and later denying that she had a daughter," the affidavit states. After the alleged abandonment, Christensen allegedly left her two sons inside her car while she went into a casino in Wyandotte, Kansas, according to a report from Joplin, Missouri, news radio station KZRG. There did not appear to be any record of Christensen being arrested in Wyandotte County as of Oct. 26.Records show Christensen was arrested on the night of Oct. 23, but she did not appear to be in custody as of Oct. 27. It was not immediately clear when she was scheduled to appear in court.

Dan Bongino’s Stockpile Warning Puts These Emergency Items in Focus

Updated 16:05 28 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 18:35 27 Oct 2026 GMT"Get your stuff today. Please. Do it for your family," the former FBI Deputy Director said This article contains paid shopping links. LADbible Group receives a small payment if you click on these links or make a purchase through them.Dan Bongino, the former FBI Deputy Director, has urged Americans to have at least three days of food and power ready as governments overseas and the Pentagon plan for emergencies. "Have yourself an emergency radio, have yourself some batteries, get yourself some emergency food, get yourself a rain collection and water filtration, some filtration tablets," Bongino said on the The Dan Bongino Show podcast on Monday.“Get your stuff today. Please. Do it for your family,” he added, urging the public to do what the UK and European governments are telling their citizens: have a preparedness plan."The best day of your life, you don't need them. And in 10 years, you're like, 'Ah, I wasted $1,000 or whatever.'AdvertThe worst day in your life is your kids looking you in the face like, 'Hey Dad, Mom, where's the water?' And, 'Well, we don't have any.'Bongino issued a stern warning (YouTube/Dan Bongino)"Please, do it for everyone. Your neighbors are not going to have any extra food.”What is the US government advising people to stockpile? The US federal government, through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Ready.gov, is advising households to stockpile a basic disaster supplies kit with enough food, water, and emergency gear to last for at least three days, and ideally up to two weeks for sheltering needs.Under current guidelines, Americans are being urged to secure one gallon of water per person, per day for drinking and sanitation, alongside a multi-day supply of non-perishable foods like canned goods, protein bars, and peanut butter that require no cooking. Some of the items the US government recommends stockpiling (UNILAD/Getty Stock Images)The checklist extends well beyond the pantry, recommending battery-powered or hand-crank NOAA weather radios, flashlights, extra batteries, first aid kits, a seven to ten day supply of critical prescription medications, and essential sanitation items like garbage bags and moist towelettes.Local maps, cell phone power banks, dust masks, and plastic sheeting and duct tape for sheltering in place are also heavily emphasized.Bongino's warning came just hours after details of FORTRESS were revealed, a Pentagon plan to keep US forces fighting and military bases stocked for at least 90 days, even if civilian infrastructure fails.Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell told Fox News: “We don’t want to rely on standard civilian municipal infrastructure to run our national defense.”Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell told Fox News the Pentagon does not want to rely on civilian municipal infrastructure to run national defense (Roy Rochlin/Getty Images)The plan calls for portable nuclear reactors, large battery systems and independent local power grids to keep bases running through blackouts, plus civilian factories ready to switch to defense production and stockpiles of ammunition, fuel, critical minerals and medical supplies.Bongino, who has also worked for the Secret Service and NYPD, said on his podcast: “The Pentagon’s doing its job to keep our national security safe and make ‘Fortress America'. You have to make ‘Fortress my house', ‘Fortress my apartment'."Where else in the world is stepping up emergency preparedness? This tightening of domestic preparedness mirrors a rapid escalation in civil defense warnings stretching across the Atlantic and into Asia.Governments in the UK, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and France have all recently encouraged households to keep food, water, medicines, and other essentials readily available for sudden emergencies. The UK’s updated guidance, released this month, explicitly recommends three days of supplies in case severe weather, cyberattacks, or other disruptions interrupt essential services.Japan's Disaster Management Minister Goshi Hosono has announced that on November 2 every household will be urged to keep at least three days of food, water and toilet supplies (Akio Kon/Bloomberg via Getty Images)Across the Pacific, Japan’s Disaster Management Minister Goshi Hosono announced that the nation will formally urge every household to keep at least three days of food, water, and toilet supplies in anticipation of a major natural disaster, such as a large earthquake or volcanic eruption.Bongino, 51, said ‘panic kills’ and that the best way to avoid disaster is to prepare for the worst-case scenario.“I was not in the military. I haven’t been in combat but ask your heroes who have been. They will tell you: you can’t panic,” he said.Featured Image Credit: Andrew Harnik/Getty ImagesTopics: US News

El Niño death map reveals where extreme heat could hit hardest

Published 14:44 28 Oct 2026 GMTThe interactive map shows where the predicted deaths from the El Niño are likely to fallResearchers from the Climate Impact Lab have put together a map showing the predicted death toll in each country from the predicted consequences of the El Niño.They're warning that due to the extreme heat from the El Niño they're expecting the weather event to contribute to around 857,000 total extra deaths around the world, with over 372,000 of those projected to come in the next six months.Developing the grimly named 'El Niño Heat Mortality Tracker', they've made an interactive map where you can check out the countries of the world and see which ones have the highest predicted death tolls.Professor Michael Greenstone, a co-founder of the Climate Impact Lab, said: "Our research puts new forecasting capabilities to work to answer one of the most urgent questions we face: where is extreme heat likely to cost lives? Advert“Being able to anticipate the deadly effects of extreme heat is a major step forward. It means we can identify where people face the greatest risks and give decision-makers a chance to act before lives are lost.Defences are being put in place against the impacts of El Niño, but the high heat is expected to be punishing (Sarah Reingewirtz/MediaNews Group/Los Angeles Daily News via Getty Images)"The Tracker provides this information for the Super El Niño we’re living through today.”Their findings have identified that the vast majority of predicted additional heat deaths from El Niño will be in the global south, with Nigeria identified as the country likely to suffer the most extra deaths. Also predicted is that India will see a significant number of deaths at the end of the next six months, with March expected to be a particularly difficult moment for enduring the heat.Indonesia has also been identified as another country likely to be significantly affected by the heating from El Niño, and Assistant Professor Tamma Carleton said the information they'd gathered 'highlights where action is most urgently needed'.She said: "The data also underscore the importance of addressing extreme heat and its deadly consequences in preparing for El Niño, alongside the extensive work already underway to combat threats to food security."The predicted additional deaths from the El Niño make for concerning reading (LADbible/Climate Impact Lab)Nigeria, India, Indonesia, Brazil and Sudan are predicted as the countries that will lose most people as a consequence of the El Niño, and identified which regions of specific countries are most likely to be badly affected. For example, they've got the US states of California and North Carolina both in the red zone where the predicted loss of life is highest, but elsewhere in the country the expected threat level is significantly lower. The south of China is identified by the interactive map as a prominent danger zone, but the north of the country isn't predicted to have the same levels of destruction. It paints a worrying picture of the impacts the El Niño will have on the world.Featured Image Credit: Climate Impact LabTopics: El Niño, World News, Weather
