Richard Norton’s Death Draws Attention After Coroner’s Peptide Finding New

Richard Norton’s Death Draws Attention After Coroner’s Peptide Finding

Updated 01:37 30 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 01:30 30 Oct 2026 GMTAustralian actor and stuntman Richard Norton died aged 75 in March 2025Australian actor and stuntman Richard Norton's death was ‘triggered’ by unauthorised peptide use, a coroner has said.Norton, who worked with Hollywood stars including Margot Robbie, Ben Affleck and Liam Neeson, passed away at Melbourne's Alfred Hospital on March 30 last year, aged 75.Coroner David Ryan has now found that Norton, who was also an experienced martial artist, died after injecting himself with an ‘excess’ dose of unapproved peptides that had been prescribed to him by a doctor.“I am satisfied that Richard’s death was triggered by his injection of the peptide CJC1295/Ipamorelin,” Ryan wrote in the report.Advert“Richard had been taking amounts of the medication in excess of the dose prescribed by his medical practitioner.“The injection caused an anaphylactic reaction which in turn led to cardiac arrest.”CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin are synthetic peptides that stimulate the body's natural production of growth hormone and are typically promoted for muscle growth, weight loss and recovery enhancement.Richard Norton was an actor and stuntman who appeared alongside the likes of Margot Robbie and Chuck Norris (Instagram/@rjnorton70)Norton’s death is reportedly the first in Australia to be linked to peptide use.The coroner recommended the Therapeutic Goods Administration re-examine the risks and benefits of the drugs, and consider imposing stricter guidelines."I am not satisfied that it is appropriate for them to be available to be prescribed by medical practitioners," the coroner said."It is not clear to me how their safe use can be clinically indicated given the acknowledged uncertainties as to their therapeutic benefit and their risks (as yet not fully known) to the safety of patients."Ryan’s report also noted that Norton’s doctor has explained the experimental nature of the peptide treatment and the lack of Therapeutic Goods Administration-approved options for it.The report also stated that Norton signed an informed consent form about the treatment.Ryan wrote: “He disclosed ... that he had been previously prescribed peptides by another practitioner which had been effective in treating symptoms relating to fatigue, reduced physical recovery, shoulder pain and loss of lean muscle mass.”The report stated that on 28 March last year, Norton told a nurse he had been taking more than his prescribed dose of peptides, with the nurse telling him to follow the correct dosage.Just hours later, Norton ‘felt hot and flushed’ before becoming unresponsive and passing away in hospital. He tragically passed away in March last year (Instagram/@rjnorton70)The Australian coroner's ruling comes after a warning was issued in the UK about the sale of 'sketchy' peptides available for sale online. Many of those sold online are not approved for human use by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).The head of borderlines at the MHRA, Lynda Scammell, told LADbible: “Peptide products may be sold as cosmetics, supplements and medicines, and depending on their intended purpose, they fall under different regulatory frameworks.“The MHRA determines whether a product is a medicine on a case-by-case basis. This includes consideration of a number of factors including the product’s effect on the body, the way it is used and takes into account all the available evidence and relevant legal precedents.“We disregard claims that products are for ‘research purposes’ if it is clear that such claims are being used as an attempt to avoid medicines regulations. If there is evidence within the promotional material that the products are in fact unauthorised medicines intended for human use, we will take appropriate regulatory action.“If a product is classified as a medicine and is not appropriately authorised, we take regulatory compliance action, including the removal of the product from the UK market where necessary.“Not all peptides fall under MHRA’s remit, for example, many peptides are sold for body-building purposes and in the absence of medicinal claims, these would not be considered medicines.”Featured Image Credit: Instagram/@rjnorton70Topics: Celebrity, Health

Villa Vie Founder Admits ‘I Messed Up’ After Cruise Dream Collapses New

Villa Vie Founder Admits ‘I Messed Up’ After Cruise Dream Collapses

Updated 23:11 29 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 23:03 29 Oct 2026 GMTVilla Vie Odyssey founder Mikael Petterson admitted 'I messed up' after 200 passengers were given under 24 hours to leave ship in CambodiaThe founder behind an ambitious "never-ending" residential cruise has publicly broken his silence after 200 passengers were abruptly stranded in Cambodia with less than 24 hours' notice, admitting: “I messed up.”Mikael Petterson, the founder and executive chairman of Florida-based Villa Vie Residences, addressed the sudden operational collapse after travellers who paid up to hundreds of thousands of dollars to live permanently at sea were ordered to pack their bags and vacate the Villa Vie Odyssey in the port city of Sihanoukville.Speaking to Business Insider, Petterson admitted he feels “awful” and acknowledged his personal responsibility for the catastrophic fallout.“I feel awful,” Petterson said, describing the situation as “incredibly deflating” after letting paying residents down. “They’re counting on me to make the decisions here, and there’s nothing else I’m focused on. I’m the villain in the story, but I’m doing everything I can to support the residents on a solution.”AdvertPitched as the ultimate perpetual getaway, cabins aboard the Odyssey were offered for rent or outright purchase ranging from $119,999 to $439,999, promising an open-ended voyage stopping at 147 countries across three years. However, the dream quickly unraveled due to mechanical setbacks and catastrophic surges in operating costs. Petterson pointed to geopolitical turmoil—specifically rising fuel prices linked to the U.S. conflict with Iran—as the decisive factor that crippled the venture. The trip was cut short for 200 people, many of which had paid tens of thousands to stay onboard (Living Life on a Cruise)According to Petterson, marine gas oil (MGO) that previously cost Villa Vie between $600 and $700 per metric ton surged to nearly $2,000 in Singapore and reached approximately $2,200 in Cambodia.Unlike major corporate cruise liners, Petterson explained that Villa Vie lacked the financial scale to absorb the blow.“[Larger cruise companies are] able to hedge and take away some of that risk, but we’re too small of a company to do that,” he explained. Before halting operations, the company resorted to increasingly desperate measures to remain afloat. In April, management asked residents to loan the company money with offered interest rates between 12% and 24%.By September, an official held a meeting asking cabin owners to raise $1 million simply so the vessel could leave Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.CEO of Villa Vie Residences Mikael Petterson at Belfast Port’s Cruise Ship Terminal in 2024. (Liam McBurney/PA Images via Getty)As panic spread, terrified residents began selling off their cabins, compounding the company's financial spiral by gutting remaining vacancy sales.Despite efforts to slow itineraries and spend more time docked to conserve fuel, the company admitted that passing mounting overheads onto residents was impossible. With the ship now laid up, Petterson revealed the company faces either court-supervised restructuring or complete liquidation.“Nobody that’s tried residential cruising has succeeded, and we’ve gone further than anyone else,” Petterson told the outlet. “We just don’t have the financial ability to sustain normal operations for the time being. So we’re protecting the asset and laying it up until we can find a solution going forward.”One couple affected are Lanette Canen and Johan Bodin (Living Life on a Cruise)One couple who have been forced from the ship, are Lanette Canen and Johan Bodin, who swapped their lives in Hawaii more than 500 days ago, to travel the world on board. The couple locked in the cabin for a monthly fee of around $3,500 for two people, with all necessities including food, drink, housekeeping, laundry, WiFi, gym access, entertainment and gratuities included in the flat rate fee. However, despite selling 31 cars to fund their alternative lifestyle, the duo have now sadly confirmed their dream life has now come to an end.Speaking exclusively with UNILAD, Lanette and Johan said: "We’ve just finished packing up and leaving the place we called home for two years."It’s been emotional and exhausting, but we’re grateful for the places we’ve seen and the friendships we’ve made. This wasn’t how we hoped it would end.”Given just six hours to pack up their belongings and depart, the couple admitted it was a bittersweet end to their time at sea, but did concede: "Our life at sea may be over, but our adventures together will continue."Featured Image Credit: AFP via Getty ImagesTopics: Cruise ship, Travel

Addison Bowell Sentenced After Chilling Comments About Runner’s Death New

Addison Bowell Sentenced After Chilling Comments About Runner’s Death

Inset: Ann Seidl (Hulke Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services). Background: Addison Bowell at her sentencing hearing (Court TV).A Wisconsin teenager who fatally struck a woman on an early-morning run has been sentenced to prison.Addison Bowell, 18, was sentenced to nine years in prison plus seven years of extended supervision after she pleaded guilty to four charges in connection with the hit-and-run death of 54-year-old Ann Seidl. Seidl was on an early-morning run on March 29, 2025, when she was struck by a car driven by Bowell, who was 17 years old at the time.Bowell's mother found Seidl unresponsive by the mailbox and called 911. When police arrived, Bowell's mother told them that her teenage daughter had come home drunk an hour earlier.During the sentencing hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors highlighted Bowell's behavior when police questioned her. Bowell told police she "didn't want to deal with this," adding that she had "like 16 underages and couldn't get another one." Police asked Bowell what she drank, to which she responded, "Probably everything," and "It doesn't matter what I was drinking. Completely besides the point."Bowell told police she "drank a lot" before getting into her vehicle that morning and that "I don't know what I hit, and I don't really care." She blew 0.114 on a preliminary breath test and failed multiple sobriety tests. After she was arrested, she asked if anyone had died. When she was told that Seidl had died, Bowell said, "[W]ho walks on the road at 3 in the morning? … like … bro." She also asked, "[S]o, am I going to get out or not?"Police seized Bowell's phone and found that she had taken videos of her car following the crash. She sent the videos to her friends, including one video played at the sentencing that showed Seidl's headband dangling from the car. Bowell was heard laughing and saying, "My door won't open!"When one of her friends asked what she hit, Bowell said she hit another car "so hard."After playing the videos, prosecutor Andrea Nodolf said, "This is all just a big joke. While the defendant can change, and I certainly hope that she does change, the only thing that these videos and her past records demonstrate is a desire for her to fulfill her own selfish needs and a complete and utter disregard for others."Bowell's attorney Michael Cohen countered by saying his client "made it clear she was accepting responsibility. I'm not sure what other actions of responsibility or remorse can be done to express that. I don't know what else people expect, to have someone express remorse or contrition for things that have happened. We don't have H.G. Wells' time machine. We're not going back in time. We're not making this not happen. So all we can do is react to that."More from Law&Crime: 'I drank a lot': Teen mowed down marathon runner 'so hard' then tried to blame the woman for exercising that early, docs sayBefore her sentence was handed down, Bowell offered an apology, saying, "I know that my words cannot undo what happened, but I hope that with my actions moving forward, I can show that I am committed to learning to become a better person."Seidl left behind three adult sons, including one with Down syndrome. Seidl's ex-husband and the father of her sons told the court, "Every day I watch him miss his mom, and I can't help explain to him why she is gone."

Cynthia Erivo addresses Ariana Grande friendship rumors after fans raise questions

Published 16:05 29 Oct 2026 GMTThe acting pair have maintained a strong offscreen relationshipCynthia Erivo has commented on her relationship with Wicked co-star Ariana Grande after their friendship came under the spotlight. The actor recently sat down with The Guardian to address the reason why fans have responded so strongly to their offscreen relationship, which has blossomed since they featured in Wicked and its sequel, Wicked: For Good.“It was interesting that there were many people who had become psychologists from their couches,” Erivo said. “There was this weird sort of, what’s the word I’m looking for … annoyance … at the fact that two women could actually be friends.”Erivo noticed fans questioned her relationship with Grande and the authenticity of their emotion when it came to promoting the two Wicked movies.AdvertThe actor continued: "Like, ‘Why are they friends? Why are they connected? There must be something wrong with them. Why are they showing emotion? How dare they cry? And how dare they laugh? And how dare they be emotive and alive?’"Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have formed a tight bond (Taylor Hill/WireImage)Describing the response as a 'double-edged sword', Erivo added: "Because if we were dead behind the eyes and showing no emotion, there would have been something else to say about it."Last October, Erivo and Grande made headlines when a fan rushed onto the golden carpet in Singapore to meet the latter, before the former swiftly stepped in and pushed the intruder away.“No one else was moving. We were on a carpet,” Erivo recalled of the moment. “We were exposed. My immediate response was: ‘Get this man away from us now.’"She continued: "I was like: ‘Oh, you think because I look like this that you could talk to me this way about something that was a human thing that I would have done for any friend, and hopefully a friend would have done for me. But I must be a bodyguard."Back in 2025, Erivo opened about the relationship she has with Grande in an interview with NBC News."This is a long-lasting friendship for us; we're kind of like sisters at this moment in time, you know? And I think we've both learnt from each other and given each other some really, really beautiful gifts," she said."We've really looked after each other through this."As to how she reacted so swiftly to the fan in Singapore, the actor explained: "I wasn't really thinking, I just wanted to make sure my friend was safe, you know? I'm sure he didn't mean us harm; you just never know with those things, and I wanted to make sure that she was okay. That was my first instinct."Featured Image Credit: Santiago Felipe/Getty Images for Universal PicturesTopics: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Celebrity

Joseph Davis Learns His Fate After Christine Morris’ Shocking Murder

Insets: Joseph Davis (Ramsey County Jail) and Christine Morris (GoFundMe). Background: Home in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he killed Morris, his girlfriend (Google Maps).A Minnesota man who flew into a rage after he learned his girlfriend was cheating on him with a married man and stabbed her to death before putting their child to sleep will spend decades behind bars.Joseph Davis, 35, was sentenced to 40 years in prison Monday. He pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Christine Morris at their home in St. Paul.According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, St. Paul police officers conducted a welfare check in the early morning hours of May 2, 2025, at a home in the 300 block of Edmund Avenue after Davis called a family member and said he killed Morris and that he was "sorry."Cops entered the home and heard a dog barking and a child coughing. They found the child — the 2-year-old daughter of Davis and Morris — sitting on a couch in the living room. In an upstairs bedroom, they found Morris' body covered by a blanket. She had suffered several stab wounds to her head, neck, chest and back, the affidavit said, with sharp force injuries piercing her lung, kidney and spleen.Morris' friends, who were interviewed at the scene, apparently said that she told them if she or her daughter ended up dead, Davis was responsible. Davis had at least three domestic violence arrests with Morris as the victim, per the affidavit. Davis' ex-girlfriend also had a restraining order against him and feared he would hurt her.Officers also spoke with a friend who was with Morris the night before the slaying. The friend relayed that Morris said Davis accused her of cheating on him. Morris arrived home around 11 p.m. and texted the friend she had made it home safely, cops noted. After police recovered the victim's phone at a nearby park, they focused on Davis, eventually locating him at an apartment in Minneapolis. The SWAT team coaxed Davis outside. The tenant at the apartment said she met Davis about a month earlier on a dating app and they had been talking. She said Davis contacted her earlier in the day and said he was running from the cops and asked her if he could stay at her place. He refused to tell her why he was in trouble, the affidavit said. After giving Davis his Miranda warnings, detectives said they told Davis that they found Morris and she had been "pretty messed up."When asked how it happened, Davis said Morris "had been f—ing him over for 5 years by cheating on him, manipulating him, and lying to him," detectives wrote. He also claimed he had set up a recording device in the home that captured Morris having sex with someone a few days before the murder. Davis said the person was a married man.The defendant stated an argument turned physical when he confronted her about lying."Davis said, 'I should have never did that to her … That s— was brutal. I—I definitely feel bad,'" cops wrote. He said the stabbing started on the bed and then the victim rolled off. Davis watched Morris "take her last breaths" before he covered her body with a blanket."She suffered, bro, she definitely suffered," Davis told detectives, adding that the stabbing wasn't planned. After he "did the s—," he lay down with the baby for a half hour or so until she fell asleep, and then he left the home. He drove to the park and threw Morris' cellphone out the window, according to the affidavit.A GoFundMe described Morris as "loving mother, sister, and friend." It went on to say that Morris' greatest legacy is her daughter, who is a "bright, strong young girl who now faces life without her mother."

It eventually set sail in October, heading for France, and managed two years at sea.AdvertThe cruise docked and those on board had to disembark (Suy Se / AFP via Getty Images)But residents were suddenly told to disembark while the company said it was 'working to address extraordinary increases in fuel costs and evaluate restructuring and recapitalisation alternatives’ earlier this week. The company said its fuel costs had risen from an historical average of $1,800 (£1,350) per cabin to an estimated $6,000 (£4,500) to $8,000 (£6,000)."Our immediate reaction was heartbreak"Lanette Canen and Johan Bodin were among the hundreds of guests who were turfed off the boat after planning for the life at sea after boarding in October 2024.After two years, with costs of around $100,000 for a cabin (£75,000) and monthly additional fees for maintenance at $3,500 per month (£2,633), it is estimated they spent in the region of $460,000 (£343,000).The pair have long-documented their journey on their Living Life on a Cruise YouTube channel, which has been covered throughout their trip by LADbible. But their happy travels came crashing down when, along with hundreds of others on board, they were told they had to leave the ship in Cambodia with just hours notice.Lanette and Johan went for the full ownership option on their cabin and still have around 12 years left of their lease onboard the ship.Lanette told the Independent: “Our immediate reaction was a deep sense of heartbreak at having to leave the home and community we had built over the past two years.Lanette and Johan have decided to move on (Lanette Canen)“It was difficult to process the news while packing up our life and saying goodbye to the place we had come to love.”She explained how company Villa Vie helped unload suitcases and provided shuttles to and from the port but offered no financial support for hotels.Despite a lack of clarity, she added: "Regardless of whether operations resume, we have decided to move on. We’re doing well, considering everything, but we are heartbroken. There have been many hugs and tears."Sharing an emotional post online, they wrote: "It’s been a crazy, exhausting few days packing up our home of two years and saying goodbye. I don’t think it’s all sunk in yet."Thank you to everyone who has reached out and sent love and support. We’re behind on replying, but we appreciate you so much."Somehow we’re still smiling. We’ve got each other, friendships we’ll keep long after leaving this ship, and plenty more adventures ahead."200 passengers booted off shipFor now, the ship is docked at the Cambodian port of Sihanoukville on the Gulf of Thailand, with no certain departure date. The ship has been carrying 203 passengers, mostly Americans, along with 156 crew members, according to Cambodian officials. It has a 650-passenger capacity.Other people on board have also since hit out, including Paul and Lynn Montoya, formerly of Wyoming, who had decided to sell their home and belongings and embark on the adventure. The couple also shared their experience through the Lynn and Paul's Excellent Adventure YouTube channel, and had parted with $179,000 for their own cabin.Paul and Lynn Montoya documented their experience (YouTube/Lynn and Paul's Excellent Adventure)Speaking to LADbible this week, Lynn said that her fellow passengers were emotional after the announcement, adding: “Disbelief, crying, sadness, and then that immediate rush that you're losing your home and you have to pack everything up or or take whatever you can with you.“We left a lot of our stuff behind in the cabin. We took two large suitcases and two smaller suitcases and a backpack, but that was really just our essentials, probably for a two-week period.”The ship arrived in Sihanoukville last Friday and was scheduled to depart on Wednesday, according to a statement from Long Dimanche, the deputy governor of Preah Sihanouk province. He said it was now expected to refuel and depart Cambodia on Saturday, but the ship’s operator has not yet publicly confirmed any date.Villa Vie Residences said in a statement: “We have been unable to continue carrying the resulting operating losses. "Passing the full increase on to residents is not a realistic solution. Our focus now is on supporting residents, crew, and employees.“The company is working with residents to co-ordinate disembarkation and identify temporary living arrangements".The LADbible Group has contacted Villa Vie Residences for comment.Featured Image Credit: livinglifeonacruise/InstagramTopics: World News, Lifestyle

Background: The apartment complex in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where their baby was found dead (Google Maps).A Wisconsin couple has pleaded guilty after their 1-year-old died in their apartment.Kevin McCall, 30, and Christina Davis, 23, both pleaded guilty this month to charges in connection with the death of their 1-year-old baby, who died after being found unresponsive in their Milwaukee, Wisconsin, apartment on Feb. 22. Davis pleaded guilty on Oct. 15 to two misdemeanor counts of neglecting a child and was sentenced to 18 months' probation.McCall pleaded guilty on Monday to one felony count of neglecting a child; a second count was dismissed but read in.According to criminal complaints reviewed by Law&Crime, police responded to a call on the afternoon of Feb. 22 about a "pulseless nonbreathing child" at an apartment complex in Milwaukee. When police arrived, McCall and Davis were on the front porch with the baby, who was taken to a hospital. Medical staff tried to revive the baby, but told police rigor mortis was already setting in, and the baby was pronounced dead.At around 2 p.m., Davis left work and returned home to find her 6-year-old daughter standing in the corner as punishment for apparently stealing the TV remote. McCall told police that he also "whooped" the girl. While McCall was fixing a video game controller, he asked Davis to check on the baby. When Davis found the baby, police wrote that the infant was "stiff" with its eyes rolling back into its head. Davis told McCall to call 911.Both Davis and McCall admitted to police that they never fed or checked on the baby that day, nor did they change the baby's diaper.A detective spoke to the 6-year-old girl at the family's apartment. She told the detective that McCall and Davis often asked her to babysit the 1-year-old and would leave the two children home by themselves. The girl told the detective that the day before the baby died, she saw her mother make a bottle for the baby that included "medicine" that would make the baby "pass out." She showed the detective the "medicine," which was a 50 mL bottle of Fireball whiskey.Davis denied ever giving the baby alcohol. She reportedly admitted that she and McCall left their two children by themselves in the apartment "at least once or twice a week" for about an hour and a half at a time.More from Law&Crime: Mother used Fireball whiskey to make 1-year-old 'pass out' before the baby died while father fiddled with video game controller: PoliceDavis told police that she depended on her 6-year-old to help her around the home because McCall "does not provide any assistance."McCall is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 18.

Why the UK’s New Vaping and Nicotine Rules Matter Now New

Why the UK’s New Vaping and Nicotine Rules Matter Now

Updated 12:24 29 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 11:59 29 Oct 2026 GMTThe first phase of measures introduced under the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 are being rolled out from todayIn the hopes of preventing another generation from succumbing to the temptation of nicotine, the UK government are changing the parameters around how you purchase these products.Downing Street says that the rollout of these new rules from today (29 October) will 'better protect' the lungs and lives of youngsters. The new legislation is set to close loopholes in existing legislation, while a host of new harsh punishments for rule breakers have also been laid out by ministers.According to the UK government, data suggests that over one million kids in the nation have tried vaping - hence why officials are so keen to crackdown on this unhealthy habit as a matter of urgency. AdvertIt is thought that enticing marketing ploys and promotions, as well as the easy access to these nicotine products, has a lot to do with the rise in young vapers. Buying any sort of vape or nicotine product for anyone under-18 is now illegal (Getty Stock Image)So, ministers set about thinking up a fresh set of rules which targets both 'availability and promotion specifically, not just who's allowed to buy'. And that's where the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 comes in. It became law in April and the rollout of its measures will happen gradually following the first phase, which begins today - and there's high expectations for it. Dame Diana Johnson, the Minister of State for Public Health and Patient Safety, dubbed the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 as 'the greatest piece of public health legislation in a generation'.How will buying nicotine products differ from today? From Thursday, new measures which aim to 'protect children and young people from the risks of nicotine addiction' come into effect.Although under-18s have been forbidden from purchasing nicotine vapes since 2015, the restrictions around these transactions are now been tightened up.Now, it is illegal to sell any vape or nicotine product to anyone under-18 in the UK - so nicotine pouches, strips and pearls, as well as non-nicotine vapes are now completely off the table for adolescents. There was previously no legal age of sale for these other items, but now, all vapes and nicotine products are being treated the same.As well as this, the government explained that the 'proxy purchasing' of any vape or nicotine product on behalf of someone under 18 is also illegal from today. The government want to 'better protect' the next generation (TOLGA AKMEN/AFP via Getty Images)The new rules also prevent nicotine products from being promoted in a certain way. From now on, there will be no vapes or nicotine products offered out as part of free giveaways, while coupons promoting them cannot be dispersed.Selling them at a substantial discount to promote the product is also prohibited from Thursday.Vending machines that sell or dispense vapes, nicotine pouches or related products are banned UK-wide, with one small exception: vaping products can still be available in-patient areas of adult mental health hospitals in England and Wales. How will the new rules be enforced? Trading Standards will take the lead on this and will be able to dole out new fixed penalty notices of £200 across England and Wales to anyone who dares to breach the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026.John Herriman, chief executive of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI), celebrated that 'loopholes they have been raising concerns about for years' are finally being closed. "Most people would be surprised to learn that it has been legal to sell nicotine pouches and nicotine-free vapes to children, and our officers have too often had to tell worried parents that there was nothing they could do," he said."From today, that changes. The new fixed penalty notices will also give Trading Standards a quicker, more proportionate way to deal with non-compliance, while robust action continues against those who deliberately flout the law."The government is pumping up to £30 million a year into enforcement agencies who will be imposing these new rules - including up to £10 million a year specifically for Trading Standards - until 2028/29. Ministers have celebrated the rollout of the new measures (Toby Shepheard - WPA Pool/Getty Images)There will also be 120 new specialist apprentices to boost the workforce tackling illegal and underage sales of tobacco and vaping products.Further aspects of the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 will come into force from next year. On New Year's Day 2027, it will become illegal to sell tobacco products, herbal smoking products or cigarette papers to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009. This means that anyone born from that date onward will never legally be sold tobacco in their lifetime. On top of that, there's a comprehensive ban on advertising and sponsorship of these products which the government in the works, which is expected to be implemented from 1 June 2027.Proposals to restrict product packaging, flavours, displays and on widening smoke-free and introducing vape-free places are also being considered. Will the new measures work? Johnson said the 'landmark' legislation will 'protect young people and stop businesses from cashing in on our children’s health'. Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty concurred, adding: "Addicting children to nicotine or encouraging them to vape could lead to the risk of serious health harms - it is completely unacceptable."These measures will help protect children from marketing of nicotine products and attempts to encourage them to vape."Andrew McCracken, Director of External Affairs at Asthma + Lung UK, is also among those celebrating the introduction of the new rules from today. He reckons it's a crucial step towards protecting the health of the next generation. The new rules come into force on 29 October (Jacob King/PA Wire)"Today’s restrictions tighten the net on vape manufacturers who for too long have profited from harming kids’ lungs," McCracken said. “Children are especially vulnerable to the dangerous effects of vaping as their lungs are still developing. "Yet, vape manufacturers have spent years designing products that look and taste like sweets, and too many young people are growing up addicted to nicotine."These restrictions are an important step towards protecting the lung health of the next generation, but they are not the final step. "Next we need to look at further restricting vape product packaging, flavours and displays."Featured Image Credit: Getty Stock ImageTopics: Vaping, Health, UK News, Politics
