Why Cereal and Orange Juice Are Facing a Stark Breakfast Warning

Why Cereal and Orange Juice Are Facing a Stark Breakfast Warning

Updated 15:06 22 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 15:54 4 Apr 2026 GMT+1It's part of a group of foods that can do damage to your body over timeA doctor has said the 'most dangerous meal in the world' is something so many people eat on a daily basis without thinking there's anything wrong.Cereal is the staple of many breakfasts and if you were drawing up a list of unhealthy foods you might not even consider them in the conversation. However, TikToking Dr Eric Berg, an American doctor and health educator who stresses that he is 'not a medical doctor', explained that cereals were among the group of 'ultra processed foods' (UPFs) which you shouldn't be eating if possible.UPFs can do harm to your body over time, and the group includes foods and drinks like ready meals, crisps, ice cream and fizzy pop, as well as the likes of cereal or protein bars which many people would assume were part of a healthy lifestyle.AdvertSo munching down on cereal for breakfast might not be the wisest option for your morning meal.Cereals are part of the ultra processed foods group (Getty Stock Photo)"Many people think this meal is actually healthy and it's been normalized because so many people do it, including myself growing up," Berg explained.Dr Berg went on to describe the dish as a 'sugar bomb' and 'massive fructose overload', before naming the combination of cereal and a glass of orange juice as the 'most dangerous meal' a human can eat.A bowl of cereal and glass of fruit juice is a simple breakfast for many out there, with studies implying that a bowl of cereal if the number one breakfast choice for Brits. While there's plenty of variety when it comes to cereal, with healthier options like wholegrain of high-fibre on offer, the most popular options tend to be the ones that are highly processed and contain a lot of sugar. This means you are essentially eating a bowl of sweets (plus milk) for breakfast.Several popular brans contain artificial flavorings, colorings and seed oils, in addition to large quantities of sugar, Dr Berg explained."It's the perfect definition of ultra processed foods. [The] ingredients that have been so altered [that] it no longer resembles its original structure," he said.He went on to add that constantly consuming highly processed and sugary cereals can damage your liver, eventually leading to the development of a fatty liver.Healthline advises: "Breakfast cereals are highly processed, often packed with added sugar and refined carbs."If you eat cereal, read the ingredients list and approach health claims with skepticism. The best cereals are high in fibre and low in sugar."As for orange juice, you may be wondering how it can be considered a bad option when it's literally one of your five-a-day.However, it's still not as healthy as eating an orange due to added sugar."Orange juice is going in my room 101 of pet hates, because people think it’s healthy when actually, has the same concentration of sugar as a glass of Coke," Giles Yeo, author of Why Calories Don't Count, told the Telegraph.A healthy alternative, if you have the time and patience, is to squeeze your own orange juice, as this will be free from the added sugar and preservatives found in juices purchased from a store. In moderation, orange juice is a good source of fibre and can help to lower inflammation.Featured Image Credit: (Getty Stock Photo)Topics: Food And Drink, Health, News

Emilia Clarke’s candid brain scan admission draws fresh attention

Emilia Clarke’s candid brain scan admission draws fresh attention

Updated 17:34 24 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 11:04 25 Jan 2025 GMTThe actress told how parts of her skull had been 'replaced with titanium' during the gruelling operations to save her lifeEmilia Clarke said it was 'remarkable' that she still had the ability to live a normal life after suffering from two aneurysms.According to the Game of Thrones star, who celebrated her 40th birthday on Friday (23 October), there is now 'quite a bit missing' from her brain and some parts of it are 'no longer usable'.Doctors detected aneurysms inside her brain in both 2011 and 2013, at the height of her fame in the HBO series - forcing her to undergo a series of gruelling operations.Clarke opened up about her terrifying health scare for the first time in 2019, detailing how she 'nearly lost her mind and then her life' in an emotional personal essay for The New Yorker.AdvertThe London-born actress was diagnosed with her first brain aneurysm nearly a decade earlier, after she collapsed during a workout.Clarke, 40, previously opened up about her terrifying health scares in a personal essay (Annie Raistrick/Getty Images)According to the NHS, a brain aneurysm is a bulge in a blood vessel in your brain caused by a weakness in the vessel wall - and if it bursts, it can cause fatal internal bleeding. What began as a 'bad headache' soon resulted in Clarke 'almost crawling' to the changing rooms in agony while she was at the gym, before she blacked out inside of a bathroom stall. After being assisted by a kind fellow fitness buff and hurried off into an ambulance, she arrived at Whittington Hospital and was informed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).Explaining her diagnosis, Clarke said this was a 'life-threatening type of stroke, caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain'."I’d had an aneurysm, an arterial rupture," the Me Before You actress said. "As I later learned, about a third of SAH patients die immediately or soon thereafter. For the patients who do survive, urgent treatment is required to seal off the aneurysm, as there is a very high risk of a second, often fatal bleed. If I was to live and avoid terrible deficits, I would have to have urgent surgery. And, even then, there were no guarantees."The actress shared snaps documenting her recovery (CBS)She subsequently had a three-hour operation to 'repair her brain', which she described as 'minimally invasive' - but as Clarke said: "This would not be my last surgery, and it would not be the worst."The screen star thankfully recovered after dealing with a brief bout of aphasia during her recovery, which is a condition caused by damage to the parts of the brain that deal with language. But her health woes were still not over, as in 2013, Clarke was informed that a smaller aneurysm on the other side of her brain which doctors had been monitoring 'had doubled in size'.The operation to remedy this did not go as smoothly as the first - as the actress explained she woke up 'screaming in pain' and was informed the 'procedure had failed'."I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it plain that my chances of surviving were precarious if they didn’t operate again," she wrote. "This time they needed to access my brain in the old-fashioned way - through my skull."She earned an MBE in 2024 thanks to her inspiring charity work, alongside her mum Jennifer (Andrew Matthews - Pool/Getty Images)"The operation had to happen immediately," Clarke said, adding that the recovery ended up being 'even more painful than it had been after the first surgery'.She told how 'bits of her skull had been replaced by titanium' while she was also left fretting that her cognitive or sensory abilities might be impacted. But miraculously, Clarke made it out on the other side of these 'dark days' and eventually decided to share her experience with fans after finding a new lease of life.As a result, she no longer shies away from sharing the reality of what enduring two aneurysms is like and recounted how lucky she feels during a sit down on BBC's Sunday Morning in 2022.She told host Sophie Raworth that she has exceeded expectations of medics, as not everyone who encounters the same health battles as her lives to tell the tale."The amount of my brain that is no longer usable... it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions," Clarke said."I am in the really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that."When asked about seeing a scan of her brain, Emilia said: "There’s quite a bit missing, which always makes me laugh."Because strokes, basically, as soon as any part of your brain doesn’t get blood for a second, it’s gone. And so the blood finds a different route to get around but then whatever bit it’s missing is therefore gone."READ MORE:EMILIA CLARKE WAS WORRIED SHE'D BE FIRED FROM GAME OF THRONES AFTER BRAIN INJURYClarke launched the charity SameYou with her mum Jennifer in 2019, which helps those recovering from brain injuries and campaigns to improve access to rehabilitation and long-term recovery support. As a result, in 2024, the pair were appointed MBEs in the New Year Honours for services to people with brain injuries.Back in 2019, Clarke shared never-before-seen images of her in hospital following one of the aneurysms while speaking about the difficult road to recovery. In an interview with CBS, the actress best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen said: "The first time it was difficult, with the second one I found it much harder to stay optimistic.Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones (HBO)"[I coped with it as a] a day to day thing. I definitely went through a period of being... down - putting it mildly," she recalled."The second one, there was a bit of my brain that actually died. If a part of your brain doesn't get blood to it for a minute, it will just no longer work. It's like you short circuit. So, I had that."She went on to describe how her leading role in GOT may just have saved her life, adding: "You go on the set and you play a badass character, and you walk through fire, and you speak to hundreds of people, and you're being asked to be - to work as hard as you possibly can."And that became the thing that just saved me from considering my own mortality."Featured Image Credit: Dia Dipasupil/Getty ImagesTopics: Emilia Clarke, Health, Celebrity News, Game of Thrones

Twilight Fans Stunned by Angela’s Surprising Walking Dead Connection

Updated 16:51 24 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 16:21 24 Oct 2026 GMT+1'I did NOT expect that'Twilight fans have made a 'crazy' revelation about Bella's friend Angela, as they're only just noticing she went onto star in the The Walking Dead. There’s nothing quite like watching an old favorite film or TV show and suddenly realizing you recognize a familiar face from something completely different.Angela, who was one of Bella’s classmates at Forks High School, was played by Canadian actress Christian Serratos, who later became known for her role as Rosita Espinosa in the hit zombie series. But it's one of those moments that makes you want to go back and rewatch everything, because how did we not spot it sooner?AdvertWhile fans might remember her as the quiet, kind-hearted friend in the vampire franchise, others will recognize her as a tough survivor navigating a world overrun by the undead."HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS !!!!! As much as I have watched both," one fan wrote on TikTok.While another added: "The fact this is the same person is crazy ROSITAAAAAAA."The star has come a long way since Twilight. (@christianserratos/Instagram)A third said: "I never noticed an just watched them all the other day.""I just watched last week & that's when i noticed lol I was CACKLING," another wrote.Introduced in the fourth season, her character, Rosita, is skilled in combat and knows how to hold her own against the walkers and the dangerous people threatening her community. As the series progresses, she becomes an increasingly important character, developing close relationships with fellow survivors while facing devastating losses along the way.And speaking about her fierce character in a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the star said: "I love holding it down for the Latinas."It's cool because, I don't know, there's a few, but there's not many Latin women in comics and I think it's probably a bucket list thing for me [to play her]."She joined The Walking Dead cast during its fourth season. (@christianserratos/Instagram)Serratos, who is now a mom, noted that her daughter Wolfie grew up visiting the Walking Dead set as she was filming for the show."Wolfie is my best buddy," the actress said."She’s been on The Walking Dead set with me since she was born. We have great pictures of her sitting on top of a pile of fake dead bodies and stuff."The 36-year-old added: "I love this show. I think it's going to go down in history as where I learned the most, kind of where I figured myself out."I'm just really proud that I got to be a part of it, and proud that I'm still here. I hope I get to kick it a little bit longer!"Featured Image Credit: Summit EntertainmentTopics: The Walking Dead, Film and TV, Celebrity, TikTok

Vladimir Putin’s Daughter Draws Attention With Plan to Fight Ageing

Vladimir Putin’s Daughter Draws Attention With Plan to Fight Ageing

Published 14:49 24 Oct 2026 GMT+1Maria Vorontsova outlined how Russians can reach 'their natural potential' - and hopefully exceed it in the futureMove over Bryan Johnson, as Vladimir Putin's daughter is also on a mission to find a way to live forever.Maria Vorontsova, who is the child of the Russian President and his former wife Lyudmila Putina, unveiled her plans to attack the ageing process at the launch of what has been dubbed a 'longevity lab'.The endocrinologist, 41, outlined how experts hope to soon create a blueprint for how humans can 'cheat God or nature' by living far beyond their natural lifespan.Amid repeated reports claiming that Putin's health isn't exactly in fine fettle, a lot of people suspect this might be what has motivated Vorontsova to engineer a solution to our mortality.AdvertAlthough she didn't reference her 74-year-old infamous father while reciting Russia's efforts to conquer the biohacking sphere, the researcher did share some details of what is in the pipeline. There are rumours that Putin is ploughing billions into biohacking (Mikhail METZEL / POOL / AFP via Getty Images)At the launch of the laboratory at the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management last week, Vorontsova explained that people need to be prioritising their health from the cradle to the grave. This means implementing good habits from childhood - such as having a balanced diet, staying active and attending regular medical check ups. These focuses should be reinforced through the education system, Vorontsova said, to ensure that the next generation of Russians can outlive their ancestors. Apparently, sticking to this sort of stuff will help folks reach 'their natural potential', which she estimates to be from 85-90 years old, according to the Vedomosti newspaper. But as Vorontsova - who studied biology at St Petersburg University and medicine at Moscow State University - explained, Russia is looking to bolster its average life expectancy with the help of modern medicine, too. Vorontsova says the 'universal human fear of death' will inspire longevity research Research at the longevity lab will focus on finding a way for humans to exceed their life spans, or in Vorontsova's words, 'cheat God or nature'. She reckons that the 'universal human fear of death' will prompt healthcare providers to come up with some remedies within the next two decades. Noting that ageing is not yet looked at as a disease, the endocrinologist explained that this is stunting the progress of scientists due to the red tape surrounding launching clinical trials on what could be wonder drugs. Her colleagues at the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management told Vedomosti that experts at the new lab will also be monitoring the way that increasing life expectancy will impact society.Vorontsova's latest remarks come after she recently appeared on Russian state TV to boast about the headway her nation is making when it comes to defying the hands of time. "Russia has every chance of being the first to invent a pill against ageing," she said, as per The Sun. "It is important to establish the criteria for who should be prescribed this pill."The daughter of the Russian President, Maria Vorontsova, hopes researchers will find a way to 'cheat God or nature' (Contributor/Getty Images)"I think that within the next 10 to 20 years, we will definitely develop this new component of the healthcare system," Vorontsova went on. "This will allow us to make further progress in this area within a more formal framework."Putin is said to be pumping billions into the biohacking sector, according to previous reports, and is said to have ordered Russian experts to make human longevity their main focus. In September last year, The Wall Street Journal reported that he was heard discussing technological healthcare advances with China’s Xi Jinping, 73, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, 42.Putin told his counterparts through a translator that 'human organs can be constantly transplanted, to the extent that people can get younger, perhaps even immortal'. The conversation that was caught on a hot mic then captured Xi's response, as he said: "It is predicted that by the end of the century, people in the future could live to be 150-years-old."Featured Image Credit: Contributor/Getty ImagesTopics: Vladimir Putin, Russia, Health, Science

Trapped Caretaker Simon Greenall Is Behind These Iconic British Characters

Trapped Caretaker Simon Greenall Is Behind These Iconic British Characters

Published 13:26 24 Oct 2026 GMT+1From Partridge to Mr Men, you're probably more familiar with the CBBC actor than you thinkIn light of this week’s episodes of The Celebrity Traitors, we’re taking a look at the splendid career of actor Simon Greenall. But Greenall isn’t even in this year’s cloak-and-dagger BBC series, we hear you say. Technically you’d be correct to point that out, as of course it’s just been Richard E. Grant, Michael Sheen, Miranda Hart, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft, Sharon Rooney, Myha’la, Bella Ramsey, and Julie Hesmondhalgh representing the acting world this time around. And yet, one fan’s tweet regarding Thursday's (22 October) episode of The Celebrity Traitors has reminded us of the great work done by Greenall since starting out in the early 1990s.Referring to the pulse-pounding mission which saw traitorous Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny having to steal shields from the blindfolded faithfuls, the viewer wrote on X: “This Traitors challenge is literally CBBC Trapped! (a way better designed TV show).” To be fair though, this comparison also applies to the series as a construct.AdvertNow that's nostalgic. (CBBC)In case the fantastical kids game show is new news, it featured Greenall in the role of The Caretaker for its entire four-series run between 2007 and 2010. Unfolding in a dark tower marooned in the middle of the ocean, Trapped! finds Greenall’s imprisoned character tasked with catching as many children as he can to placate the all-seeing Voice.Six young participants compete across each episode; locked inside a cage-lift, they are winched upwards to their starting place at the tip of the tower by The Caretaker (who commentates on the action from a turret-adjacent attic) before journeying back down floor by floor. One kid is eliminated as they pass through the floors, leaving just one survivor at the bottom who claims the Key of Freedom and escapes. So where else have we seen Greenall? You’ll be surprised to learn he’s actually the man behind many iconic characters, including the animated Russian meerkats Aleksandr Orlov and Sergei, who have embodied the business insurance firm Compare the Market in its advertising materials since 2009.The 68-year-old memorably played Michael the Geordie throughout the Alan Partridge universe, beginning with 1997’s I’m Alan Partridge, while even lending his voice to The Twins in the Shaun the Sheep Movie, The Flight Before Christmas, and this year’s The Beast of Mossy Bottom.Greenall at the Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa World Premiere in 2013.(Tim P. Whitby/Getty Images for Studiocanal)Let’s not discount his part as Captain Barnacles in the children’s TV show Octonauts either, which committed him to 122 episodes in total. Comedy is in Greenall’s very bloodstream, it seems, having collaborated with impressionists Jon Culshaw and Debra Stephenson, as well as industry heavyweights Paul Whitehouse, Harry Enfield, James Corden, Jack Dee, Armando Iannucci, Graham Linehan, David Baddiel, Leigh Francis, Peter Serafinowicz, and Jon Richardson over the years. Those projects include Lead Balloon, The Keith Lemon Sketch Show, Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul, Big Train, World of Pub, and Newman & Baddiel in Pieces. In 2008, Greenall delighted school-aged kids yet again with various voice roles on The Mr. Men Show, and has bulked out his CV with pitstops on Car Share (headlined by Peter Kay), Doctor Who, strange true-crime story The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Plebs, Inspector George Gently, and Secret Diary of a Call Girl. That’s pure versatility distilled into one human being right there!Featured Image Credit: CBBCTopics: Nostalgia, Entertainment, TV and Film

Why Stevie Wonder Is Seeking to Evict His Ex-Fiancée After 38 Years

Updated 14:24 24 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 12:41 24 Oct 2026 GMT+1The 'Part-Time Lover' singer dubbed his ex's refusal to leave the home as 'malicious'Stevie Wonder has asked a court in California for permission to evict his ex-fiancée, who has been living in one of his home for nearly four decades rent free. The 76-year-old, whose real name is Stevland Hardaway Morris, is attempting to remove Carmen Efferson from his Los Angeles home following a disagreement that occurred over the summer.According to the complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on October 22, Wonder and Efferson made a verbal agreement in 1988 that would allow the latter to continue living in the home.It is believed she moved into the home while engaged to Wonder, who allowed her to keep living there rent-free after they parted ways.AdvertStevie Wonder is now seeking to evict his ex (Anna KURTH / AFP via Getty Images)The 'Part-Time Lover' singer's ex has lived in the home ever since, however, a conflict began this summer when Wonder's attorneys told Efferson she would need to allow insurance workers to come in and inspect the home for insurance purposes. An email dated July 23, which has been attached to the complaint and seen by People, claims the tenant was notified that the insurance inspector would be visiting the home on July 30 to 'conduct an inspection for the purposes of maintaining insurance coverage on the Property'.However, it's alleged that Efferson replied to the email just two days later staying that she would not be allowing the inspectors into the home, adding that she was 'feeling harassed', and did 'not consent' to the insurance inspection.According to the filing, she responded: "You do not have my permission to step onto the property for any reason. If you or any other representatives attempts to enter my home or trespasses on the property, I will immediately contact law enforcement."Wonder was engaged to Efferson when she moved into the home in 1988 (Rebel Media/WireImage)The filing also stated that Efferson was handed a 30-day notice for her to vacate the property the day after her email, but that she did not leave the home and has even accused Efferson's continued possession of the home as 'malicious'.Now, Wonders' attorneys have said they are seeking 'forfeiture' of the verbal agreement allowing Efferson to live there, in addition to any 'reasonable attorney fees' and statutory damages as a result of the malicious possession of the home. While Efferson appears to have kept a low profile over the years, Billboard's archives have credited her as being a producer on the music video for 'Get It', Stevie Wonder's 1988 duet with Michael Jackson, which could be where the pair met all those years ago.Featured Image Credit: SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty ImagesTopics: Celebrity, Los Angeles

Jeffrey Dahmer’s Chilling Explanation Resurfaces in Disturbing Prison Interview

Jeffrey Dahmer’s Chilling Explanation Resurfaces in Disturbing Prison Interview

Published 13:51 23 Oct 2026 GMT+1He spoke about how he deserved to dieWarning: This article contains allegations of sexual harassment, rape and murder which some readers may find distressing.Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer revealed the origins behind his killing compulsions in a chilling interview which has recently resurfaced online. The American, who killed and dismembered as many as 17 victims during his murder spree between 1978 and 1991, continues to dominate headlines even more than 30 years on from his death. He was recently portrayed in American Horror Story episode where he is controversially seen using Grindr, given that Dahmer was gay and all of his victims were men and boys.AdvertBut however haunting an actor's portrayal of the serial killer may be, it's still almost impossible to understand Dahmer's true intentions and motives behind his horrific crimes, which eventually saw him turn to cannibalism. In a 1993 interview with Inside Edition, Dahmer spoke with a reporter about what had driven him to commit the murders, before concluding to suggest that he deserved death. He was killed in prison just over a year after the interview first aired.Dahmer was due to spend the rest of his life in jail (Curt Borgwardt/Sygma/Sygma via Getty Images)He said: “Not because I was angry with them not because I hated them, but because I wanted to keep them with me. "As my obsession grew, I was saving body parts such as skulls and skeletons and eventually I did turn to cannibalism. I’d have the sleeping pill mixture already prepared. The person would drink it, fall asleep, and that’s when they would be strangled."The calmness with which Dahmer speaks in the interview is perhaps the most horrifying part of his persona, especially when the interviewer asks him if he still had the urge to kill behind bars. He replied: “I wish that I could say that it just left completely but there are times where I still do have the old compulsions. That’s what I deserve. I deserve death."Dahmer was eventually killed in 1994 by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver, who had grown tiresome of the killer's jokes and taunts behind bars, as he was known to have taunted other prisoners with food items which were fashioned to look like limbs.Dahmer first killed in Ohio in 1978 but didn't murder again until 1987, which kickstarted a four-year spree which eventually saw him arrested in 1991, before he was sentenced to 16 consecutive life terms in 1992.But he would only serve two of those years before his own murder.Meanwhile, Ryan Murphy's recent depiction of the killer was met with significant backlash online, with many suggesting that the director had no respect for Dahmer's victims and their families. One user wrote: "Jeffrey Dahmer was a real person and serial killer who murdered 17 innocent men and boys. His youngest victim was 14 years old. He drugged them, performed experiments, killed them, sexually violated their corpses, took photos of their bodies, dismembered and ate parts of them.”They added: “He is not a fictional character or someone to use for a comedic bit. Ryan Murphy is a weirdo with no respect for the victims or their families. His obsession with real murderers and falsifying their stories while advertising it as factual is beyond unethical and disgusting. This is wrong and gross.”Male Survivors Partnership is available to support adult male survivors of sexual abuse and rape. New World Screwworm Sparks Warning After First US Wildlife Detection

New World Screwworm Sparks Warning After First US Wildlife Detection

Published 17:28 23 Oct 2026 GMT+1The first detection of the flesh-eating parasite was confirmed on October 21New World Screwworld (NWS), a type of parasite that lays eggs into open wounds, has been detected in America.Earlier this week, The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) released a statement confirming that NWS has been detected in wildlife in the US.It was discovered in an infested elk in Pecos County, Texas, and was brought to the APHIS' attention after a hunter harvested the animal.NWS is a parasitic fly that 'completes part of its lifecycle by feeding on the tissue or flesh of warm-blooded animals and people', says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).AdvertApparently the parasites are attracted to wounds, as well as body openings like the ears, nose, and eyes.Once the eggs have hatched into maggots, they then 'eat live tissue, causing a worsening, often painful, and foul-smelling wound'.How NWS maggots look once hatched (CDC)The symptoms of NWS listed by the CDC include:Feeling or seeing maggots (larvae) move in a skin wound or sore, or in the ears, nose, eyes, or mouthPainful skin wounds or sores that worsen within a few daysA foul-smelling odor from the site of the infestationBleeding from open soresAddressing the recent discovery of NWS, APHIS said: "The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the first detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in wildlife in the United States, in an elk in Pecos County, TX. The elk was located on a game ranch and was reported after being harvested by a hunter."This detection highlights the critical role hunters, landowners, outdoor enthusiasts, and wildlife professionals play in helping detect and stop the spread of NWS. Early reporting is one of the most important tools we have to protect wildlife, livestock, and pets in the United States."The Texas Animal Health Commission will modify a previously established infested zone, and USDA and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are conducting additional wildlife surveillance in the area."An infested elk was recently discovered in Texas (Getty Stock Image)APHIS went on to credit hunters for 'making a difference' as it's them, as well as others who spend a lot of time outdoors, that are often the first to come across infected wildlife, making their observations are 'especially valuable to surveillance and response efforts'.As of October 22, the CDC said that there has been no human cases of NWS in humans in the US and the risk to humans 'remains very low'.There has been nearly 3,000 humans infected with the parasite in Central America and Mexico, however. To protect yourself from infestation, people are advised (when outdoors) to keep wounds clean and covered, wear loose-fitting clothing, long-sleeved shirts and pants, hats, and socks to limit exposed skin, and to sleep indoors or in rooms or tents with screens.Featured Image Credit: Getty Stock ImageTopics: Texas, Animals, News, Health
