Why William and Kate’s Children Use Casual Names at School

Why William and Kate’s Children Use Casual Names at School

Published 03:56 6 Oct 2026 GMT+1The youngsters reportedly don't bother with their officials title when in the classroom Prince William and Princess Kate's three children reportedly ditch their formal titles for something a little more casual while at school. Being part of the British monarchy means Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are some of the most famous kids in the world, but it seems when they’re at school they’d rather not stand out. According to Hello! magazine, this means that the trio drop the Prince and Princess titles and instead simply go by George Wales, Charlotte Wales and Louis Wales at school. The surname Wales is, of course, a nod to their parents’ titles as Prince and Princess of Wales, which they were given following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. AdvertThe children’s monikers follow part of a long-standing tradition in the royal family. Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis leave their titles at their school gates (Karwai Tang/WireImage)Both their dad William and uncle Prince Harry used the surname Wales as school, because their dad - the now-King Charles - was the Prince of Wales at the time. Prior to using the last name Wales, the children were called George Cambridge, Charlotte Cambridge and Louis Cambridge - again, in a nod to their parents’ former titles of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince Harry's children follow the same tradition Much like their cousins, Harry’s children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet use the surname Sussex. Harry and wife Meghan have the titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex and, in-keeping with that same time-honoured tradition, use it as their last name. When the children were born, they were named Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor but when they became a Prince and Princess the surname was dropped. The royal family’s website states: “The Queen’s descendants, other than those with the style of Royal Highness and the title of Prince/Princess or female descendants who marry, would carry the name of Mountbatten-Windsor.” Last year, Meghan confirmed her name and her children’s names on her Netflix show With Love Meghan.Harry and Meghan’s kids share the same tradition when it comes to their surnames (Instagram/@meghan)Speaking to pal Mindy Kahling, she said: “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now.“I share my name with my children. I didn’t know how meaningful that would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name, our little family name.’”She then addressed the discourse around her and her kids’ names in an interview with PEOPLE, explaining: “It's our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn't recognised how meaningful that would be to me until we had children. I love that that is something about Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.” She went on to say that the name Sussex had become part of her ‘love story’ with husband Harry. "I think as the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’ I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex," she added. The Bohemian Rhapsody star grew up in Los Angeles with his identical twin, Sami, and their older sister Yasmine, who also happened to choose a career as a doctor far away from the spotlight. The twins were born on May 12, 1981, and despite Sami opting for a quiet life as an English teacher, Robert Downey Jr. praised the 45-year-old and the rest of Rami's family for pushing the Oscar-winner toward success, in an essay for TIME's 100 Most Influential People of 2019 list."I contend that his mother Nelly, his father Said, his sister Yasmine and his brother Sami are the foundational pillars to his rise," Downey Jr. wrote.AdvertThe legend added: "Mighta just been destiny…more likely it’s yet another testament to hardworking immigrants raising their kids right and pushing our culture toward the light."The Malek brothers are the son's of Egyptian immigrants, and grew up speaking Arabic and practicing other cultural traditions. The identical twins were born just four minutes apart. The British-born wrestler, who was known as Pac, passed away on Sunday 27 September, just one day after he took part in AEW's All Out event in Chicago. A spokesperson from the Cook County Medical Examiner told LADbible last month that he passed away in Illinois at 4.08pm (local time) and confirmed an autopsy had taken place, adding: “Cause and manner of death are pending for additional testing. It may be several weeks before results are available.”New details surrounding his death have since emerged. After ‘visually observing’ the body, the first responder wrote that they ‘did not find any injuries or suspicious markings on him’.The report goes on to say that the officer began looking around the vehicle and found a phone and wallet that contained a UK driving license belonging to Satterley. In the boot of the car, the officer found two suitcases and a backpack, the latter of which contained ‘some medication’ - the report has redacted the name of the medication. The responding officer also discovered a clue about where Satterley had been headed prior to his death. “I noticed that Google Maps was still open on his cellphone and it was routing him to O'Hare Airport,” they wrote. The official said that Satterley’s phone had been ringing and that their fellow officer picked it up and spoke to female known to Satterley’s whose name has been redacted. Tributes have flooded in for the former WWE star (Lukas Schulze/Bongarts/Getty Images)The person told cops that she had last spoken to Satterley at around 1.20pm and he’d told her he was stopping off for lunch. The woman said that Satterley’s original flight to the UK had been delayed and had been re-scheduled for 3.30pm. The report notes: “I did not observe any obviously suspicious marks upon Satterly nor circumstances within the vehicle.”Tributes have flooded in for the wrestler Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Satterley started his professional wrestling career in 2004 and competed for promotions around the world. He first found fame competing in the WWE under the name Adrian Neville, and later signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).In 2022, he made history as the inaugural AEW All-Atlantic Champion in 2022 and was also an acclaimed AEW World Trios Champion.Following his tragic passing tributes poured in for Satterley, with AEW boss Tony Khan hailing him as ‘one of the best people’ he’s ever known. “Ben was an absolutely fantastic wrestler, absolutely fantastic human being, a great person to work with, and a great person to spend time with,” he continued.WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman described it as a 'truly terrible loss' adding: "He was a tremendous talent and even finer human being."Meanwhile, AEW wrestler Evil Uno said: "I am in shock. This is heartbreaking."We have lost another great person, a great soul, a true professional."Featured Image Credit: AWE Topics: UK News, US News, WWE, Sport

Why Daria Shipilova’s Death Triggered Strict Anti-Epidemic Measures in Russia

Why Daria Shipilova’s Death Triggered Strict Anti-Epidemic Measures in Russia

Published 19:03 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1Health experts warn that pneumonic plague is the most severe and problematic form of the disease because it spreads person-to-personA woman's death has triggered an emergency response in Russia after she reportedly passed away from a suspected pneumonic plague outbreak.Russian officials enacted strict anti-epidemic measures following the death of 28-year-old Daria Shipilova, a lab technician who worked at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute in Siberia.According to reports from independent Russian media, Shipilova was hospitalized on Tuesday (September 29) in the nearby town of Shelekhov, where she was admitted with severe pneumonia symptoms and placed on a ventilator before passing away two days later.Local reports indicate she told colleagues she had inadvertently broken a test tube containing live bacteria while collecting samples. However, the Russian health agency Rospotrebnadzor released a statement claiming she was diagnosed with 'pneumonia of unknown etiology'.AdvertIt added that initial testing had not identified any microorganisms associated with her lab work, but despite this, local authorities have reportedly identified 197 people who potentially came into contact with Shipilova.Of that group, 189 individuals were brought into a local hospital in Shelekhov for strict observation and preventative medical measures - with the facility placed under quarantine while standard lab tests have been temporarily suspended.Daria Shipilova tragically died last week after contracting the pneumonic plague (Social media)With Covid-19 fresh in everyone's minds, a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is 'closely' monitoring the situation."The safety and security of US citizens is our highest priority," they said.Former White House Covid-19 response coordinator Dr Ashish Jha noted that if it represents an isolated case with no additional deaths, 'it will probably end there'.The CDC currently lists the most common forms of the infection as bubonic, pneumonic, and septicemic. The bubonic plague usually results from the bite of an infected flea and carries an incubation period of two to eight days. Patients typically develop swollen, painful lymph nodes, and the bacteria can spread to other organs if left untreated. While the septicemic plague can occur as the first symptom of the disease or develop directly from an untreated bubonic case, with symptoms including abdominal pain and shock, with tissues on the fingers, toes, and nose potentially blackening and dying.Graph shows human plague causes in the US since 2000 (UNILAD)As for the pneumonic plague, experts regard it as the most serious form of the disease.Unlike bubonic plague, this form can spread directly between people through respiratory droplets.Dr Richard Martinello, chief medical officer at Yale Medicine, told Newsweek: "Pneumonic plague is when you have pneumonia due to the Y. pestis bacteria."Persons with pneumonic plague can spread the Y. pestis bacteria to other persons who can then develop pneumonia."This person-to-person spread is what makes pneumonic plague so problematic."The CDC notes the incubation period for pneumonic plague can be as short as one single day following inhalation, with symptoms quickly turning into rapidly developing pneumonia with shortness of breath, chest pain, and a persistent cough. The World Health Organization warns the disease carries an overall case-fatality ratio of 30 percent to 100 percent.Featured Image Credit: Sergey Nikolaev/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesTopics: World News

Colorado Dad Responds After Son’s El Capitan Climb Sparks Complaints

Published 19:16 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1Joe Evermore, 44, from Colorado, says people think his 'kids would be better put in a foster system'A man has opened up about the online trolling he has received after he and his wife take their children with them on challenging hikes. Colorado dad-of-four Joe Evermore says his seven-year-old son has become the youngest person ever to climb 3,000-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park back in May. However, the 44-year-old says that viewers online have opted to call Child Protective Services on him and his wife Anne Evermore, 39. “There’s people that think, ‘Hey, your kids would be better put in a foster system’ or put in front of a television, rather than training daily for an epic mission,” the entrepreneur told PEOPLE.AdvertAlthough CPS has been forced to review multiple complaints, they have declined to pursue them.Joe Evermore, 44, from Colorado, says people think his 'kids would be better put in a foster system' (SWNS)“There’s people that think, ‘Hey, your kids would be better put in a foster system’ or put in front of a television, rather than training daily for an epic mission,” the father adds.“They just don’t understand what’s dangerous and what’s not dangerous.“It’s kind of like someone who says, ‘How can you go on a plane? What if the wings fall off?’ It’s like, no, you’re not even thinking about the actual dangers of the sport.”The dad-of-four says his parenting techniques are 'safe' (SWNS)While videos of the climbs can look scary on social media, he believes modern climbing systems are far safer than most people realise. He said: "The biggest danger isn’t actually falling because the gear is incredibly strong."What worries me more is someone dropping a rock or a water bottle from above - something the size of a fist could kill somebody."Each year, one of his sons are given a major challenge designed to push them beyond their comfort zone. The rules are that it has to be difficult, remarkable - but safe. His seven-year-old son has become the youngest person ever to climb 3,000-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park back in May (SWNS)With Anne now pregnant with the couple’s fifth child - a girl - the family is preparing for its next chapter. And while Joe jokes he may need to learn a few new parenting skills, there is one thing he is certain about. He said: "She’s definitely going to climb too. We’ve had so many dads tell us they’ve been inspired by what we’re doing."If I can encourage other fathers to get outside, go camping and do something adventurous with their kids, that’s a win."Joe believes the extreme adventures are helping transform his kids into ‘confident’ adults.Featured Image Credit: YouTube/Inside EditionTopics: US News, Parenting

The Legal Detail That Could Decide Christa Pike’s Execution Fate

The Legal Detail That Could Decide Christa Pike’s Execution Fate

Updated 16:07 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 15:24 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1Pike's lawyers say they may never know 'what kind of torture she endured during the process'Christa Pike is currently in 'critical condition' in hospital following two unsuccessful attempts to administer the lethal injection. The state of Tennessee has not yet said whether it will ultimately try to execute her again, but one expert has revealed the 'only way' the 50 year old could go through the process again. On Wednesday, September 30, Pike was given two doses of the drug pentobarbital. Journalists inside the execution chamber reportedly recalled the 50-year-old 'snoring loudly' for up to 40 minutes after being injected, and she was later taken to hospital, where it was said she was receiving life-saving care. The prognosis is not yet known, but one expert has claimed that if Pike has sustained brain injuries, the state won't be able to execute her again.“She can’t be executed if she is brain injured and doesn’t understand the proceedings,” Professor Deborah Denno of the Fordham School of Law told The New York Post.AdvertChrista Pike remains 'critically ill' in hospital, her lawyers have said “The United States Supreme Court recognized in a case involving a dementia patient in 2019 that you can’t execute someone who’s not aware of the punishment that they’re going to receive," he added. If Pike does survive with no brain injuries, the expert told the outlet that she could 'have a strong argument for double jeopardy.'Double jeopardy refers to the act of prosecuting a person more than once for the same offence. It is prohibited by the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution.Should this happen, her death sentence for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer could potentially be commuted to life imprisonment. In the months leading up to Pike's scheduled execution her lawyers had been fighting to have her death sentence commuted. They filed a clemency petition which detailed her traumatic childhood. The petition pointed to evidence her mother drank heavily while pregnant, which they say affected Pike's brain development and impulse control. As well as this, it also documented her childhood abuse.Pike was 18 years old when she brutally murdered Slemmer, and was charged in 1996 when she was 20.Pike has spent over three decades on death row (WTVF)If her execution had been successful, Pike would have been the first woman to have been executed in Tennessee in 200 years. Her boyfriend at the time, Tadaryl Shipp, was also convicted of the murder. However, as he was 17 at the time, legally he could not be given the death sentence.During an interview with CNN on Sunday, Pike's lawyer Stephen Ferrell said: "We don't know what her physical state will be, but it is clear that she has endured a tortuous attempt at executing her, and we had already asked that the governor commute her for many good reasons."She's spent over 30 years in prison, most of that in solitary confinement, only to be taken out and not executed, but tried to execute her."We don't know right now, and we may never know, what kind of torture she endured during that process," he added. On Pike's botched execution, a spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Corrections said: "The Tennessee Department of Correction followed every step of the State's lawful, established execution protocol approved by the Attorney General's Office."The lethal injection chemical in the protocol has consistently been effective, and the protocol does not allow for additional procedures beyond what was carried out this evening. Christa Pike has been transported to an off-site medical facility."Featured Image Credit: Tennessee Department of CorrectionsTopics: US News, Crime

Christa Pike’s possible brain injury raises a major execution question

Christa Pike’s possible brain injury raises a major execution question

Published 15:18 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1Pike, 50, was supposed to become the first woman put to death in Tennessee in 200 yearsAn attorney who previously represented Christa Pike during her post-conviction appeals has revealed how another execution attempt could go ahead. The failed execution attempt of the murder has made repeated headlines since she was taken to hospital for ‘live-saving’ measures on 30 September. The now 50-year-old was supposed to become the first woman put to death in Tennessee in two centuries after being sent to prison for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer. However the attempts failed, and she was taken to hospital having survived two doses of the lethal injection.AdvertPike reportedly 'remains critically ill' and is being treated at a hospital in Nashville, Texas, with her legal team claiming she 'may not fully recover'.Christa Pike, pictured in 1995, is receiving life-saving medical care in hospital (WBIR10)Her lawyer Stephen Ferrel told CNN of her current status: “She is guarded. I’m not sure who may have seen her."I know I have not seen her. The state of Tennessee has not yet said whether it will ultimately try to execute her again.”He added that she 'may not fully recover' is she isn't executed, noting that her future remains uncertain as doctors tried to clear two doses of pentobarbital from her body.Gov. Bill Lee later halted the one remaining execution for the rest of the year in Tennessee pending an investigation. Now, Pike's former lawyer James Crowson has told LADbible about his experience with her in the mid-2000s, revealing what he thought of her and what the next steps could be.She has been locked up since 1996 after killing her classmate, Colleen Slemmer, when she was 18 at the time.Colleen Slemmer was killed by Christa Pike (Family Handout)They may not be able to attempt another execution Speaking to LADbible, Crowson, who opposes the death penalty, said she may not be able to face another execution due to the potential impact of the botched attempt. This is because if she suffers permanent brain injuries or becomes so compromised 'she doesn't know what's going on', then they wouldn't be able to attempt to take her life.Executions are legally barred if an inmate is mentally incompetent and doesn't understand the reason for their execution.“Nobody, certainly not Christa Pike and not even the state of Tennessee, should be allowed to take someone’s life," he explained.Christa Pike (YouTube/Insider Edition)"The outcome of this attempted execution shows it’s difficult to walk the fine line between properly punishing someone who did something horrific and not violating the constitutional prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment.”He continued: “As a practical matter, there’s going to be a lot of pressure on the governor to grant clemency after this.“Without knowing the exact effect of the attempted execution on Christa, it’s impossible to say how this will all play out. "In my experience a lot of folks who are on ventilators end up with permanent brain injuries. If someone has a brain injury to such an extent that she cannot see a causal relationship between the punishment and her prior actions, that person cannot be executed. "In other words, if she’s so compromised that she doesn’t understand what’s going on, they will not be able to attempt another execution.”Christa had been on death row for 30 years (Getty)"She could be very charming"Crowson had represented Pike between 2006 and 2008 while working for the Tennessee Post-Conviction Defender.Remembering his interactions with her, he told LADbible that despite her crimes, she was 'very charming' and had suffered abuse.“Christa Pike was an attractive young lady when she was arrested and there was an overlay of allegations of satanic involvement in the crime, and that is always something that gets a lot of attention," he explained.“She could be very charming, and she at least projected empathy and being sensitive. Christa Pike (Tennessee Department of Correction)"She was an artist, among other things, and a bit of a writer. She was a very nuanced person. She had a lot of different sides to her personality. Of course, I didn’t get to see all of them.”"I was part of a team of two attorneys who worked on her appeal for about a year and a half in the late 2000s. Christa had other appellate attorneys before I joined the team and after I left. "At the time, we were having hearings at the appellate level where we were making the argument that Christa received ineffective assistance of counsel at her trial."Featured Image Credit: Tennessee Department of CorrectionTopics: US News, Crime

Why a Paperweight Appeared in Christa Pike’s Execution Chamber

Why a Paperweight Appeared in Christa Pike’s Execution Chamber

Published 12:31 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1The 50-year-old remains alive but unconscious after surviving two doses of the lethal injectionThe disturbing reason a paperweight was placed inside Christa Pike's execution chamber has been revealed as the killer remains on life support following the failed lethal injection. Pike was scheduled to become the first woman in more than 200 years to be put to death by the state of Tennessee on September 30.Instead, the 50-year-old death row inmate managed to survive two doses of the lethal injection drug, pentobarbital, during the botched execution at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. She currently remains alive but unconscious in a Tennessee hospital, as staff are working to save her life and clear pentobarbital from her system.AdvertThe killer's attorneys noted that she could be heard 'crying, whimpering, and breathing loudly throughout the procedure', and authorities have not yet provided an explanation as to what went wrong. But as the days pass by, more details about the failed execution have come to light. The 50-year-old has spent more than three decades on death row. (Tennessee Department of Corrections)The Associated Press reported that a paperweight 'about the size of a golf ball' was placed on a ledge inside the chamber during the execution attempt, which appeared to signal that the so-called 'lethal' drugs had been administered. While officials did not confirm the meaning behind the mystery object, following its placement, a five-minute countdown then begna before the curtain shut.Only it didn't quite go as planned, because three minutes later, the curtain was back up. Following a second round of the drug being administered, Pike was rushed to hospital, as witnesses in the chamber recalled the killer 'snoring loudly'. Pike was rushed to hospital following the botched execution attempt. (Christa Pike's legal team)It's not clear whether the state will re-organize for the 50-year-old to suffer the death penalty in the future, but all executions in Tennessee have been canceled for the rest of the year. And while her case is among the most unusual, it has raised further questions about what can happen when a lethal injection goes wrong - and what inmates are expected to experience when it goes according to plan.Jonathan Groner, MD, Emeritus Professor of Clinical Surgery at Ohio State University College of Medicine, has since spoken to UNILAD about the use of pentobarbital. In terms of pain felt during the process, Groner said it's 'unlikely' to cause discomfort if it's done correctly, but 'highly likely if administered improperly'.He further noted that the sedative is 'less effective' if the drug leaks out of the vein or if the IV doesn't successfully go into a blood vessel. In those instances, 'the drug will end up under the skin instead of in the circulation', and therefore will not work as intended.Pike has spent three decades on death row for the 1995 murder of her 18-year-old college classmate, Colleen Slemmer.Featured Image Credit: WTVFTopics: Death Row, US News, Crime

Alleged Christa Pike Photo Raises Questions After Failed Lethal Injection

Alleged Christa Pike Photo Raises Questions After Failed Lethal Injection

Published 13:09 5 Oct 2026 GMT+1Christa Pike's failed execution on 30 September has led the state to pause all executionsFollowing Christa Pike’s controversial failed execution, a graphic photo has allegedly emerged, showing the damage the lethal injection had done to her body. Pike execution attempt has been in the news plenty of times in the week since she was taken to hospital for ‘live-saving’ measures on 30 September. But the details keep coming, which have revealed the extent of her some of her injuries after being injected with two shots of pentobarbital, in accordance with the state’s backup protocol if one injection fails. Pike, 50, was supposed to become the first woman put to death in Tennessee in two centuries after being sent to prison for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer. AdvertHer execution via lethal injection was lined up and ready to go, as Pike said her her final words in the execution chamber. Christa Pike is still alive following her failed execution (Tennessee Department of Corrections)"I’m going to leave this world the way I spent most of my life, and that is with love,” she said in the room. "I’m at peace, I’m ready to be free. This is a happy day." However, according to some who were there, Pike began to complain of pain in her arm, stating: “My arm feels like it’s about to burst open.” She then asked: “Does this happen like that?” Shockingly, it was described that despite being dosed with two loads of pentobarbital she was still alive and had been rushed to hospital, where she 'remains critically ill'. In the most recent health update from her legal time, they shared Pike ‘may not fully recover’. In the aftermath, the Tennessee Department of Correction said it had followed ‘every step’ of the standard protocol, while Tennessee's prisons chief Frank Strada announced he was stepping down from the role. At the moment, the state has paused all executions as it launches an investigation into Pike’s situation – which has now been revealed further with the emergence of an apparent image of her injured arm. Radar Online claims to have an image that was allegedly leaked from inside the Tennessee Department of Correction by a source.According to the outlet, it shows Pike’s severely bruised arm caused by internal bleeding from the elbow downward. However, the Radar Online will not publish the image. They say the picture shows Pike’s alleged ‘nearly purple’ arm, but this is not verified. But the description of said photo adds further insight into the condition previously told by her lawyers as having been ‘swollen, burned, and blistered’. Pike has been on death row for three decades (YouTube/Unforbidden Truth Podcast)Her legal team claim seven needles entered Pike’s arms in an attempt to find a suitable vein. However, per the outlet, the apparent source claimed: "The needle blew her vein, causing the chemicals to go to the muscle." They also claimed Pike had ‘stroke-like symptoms.’ However, none of this has been confirmed by Pike’s legal team, nor the state. Just weeks in the run up to the scheduled execution date, Pikes representatives fought to stay her execution due to fears that a blood-clotting disorder and notably thin veins could present a problem in the execution chamber. At the time, they said it could expose her to unnecessary pain. LADbible reached out to the Tennessee Department of Correction for comment.Featured Image Credit: Tennessee Department of CorrectionTopics: Crime, US News

Christa Pike has been transported to an off-site medical facility."Following the botched execution, Tennessee's prisons chief Frank Strada announced he was stepping down from the role.Meanwhile, the state said all executions would be paused until an investigation into the matter was carried out. That halt on executions, means that death row inmate Gary Wayne Sutton will no longer be put to death in December.Gary Wayne Sutton has spent more than three decades on death row (WVLT)Sutton, 57, has spent more than 30 years on death row for the 1992 murders of Tommy Griffin, 24, and Connie Branam, 34.He and his uncle James Dellinger were found guilty of killing the siblings and they were both given the death sentence.Dellinger died in 2023 aged 71.Sutton has always claimed he is innocent and his legal team have fought to have his conviction overturned. He was initially scheduled to be executed in 2022, but this was paused and then rescheduled for 3 December this year. However, with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announcing a pause on all executions through to the end of the year, the date will now be revised again.Lee said: “Carrying out a lawfully imposed sentence is among the State’s most serious responsibilities, and the people of Tennessee expect it to be done in a manner that is not only legal and constitutional, but is effective.“Therefore, the remaining scheduled execution will not be carried out this year.”Sutton’s legal team, who are from the Tennessee Office of the Post-Conviction Defender, said in a statement: “This news gives us little joy, because nobody should be forced to suffer the way Christa Pike did this week and Tony Carruthers did in May.“Still, we are relieved that Governor Lee is taking the deep problems with the state’s execution protocols seriously, and we are thankful that Gary’s execution has been paused.”The statement added: “While the state interrogates its own procedures, our work on Gary’s behalf continues. Gary, his family and those who know him have all maintained his innocence for more than 30 years."In addition, Gary’s documented intellectual disability prohibits his execution by both state and federal law. We are confident the courts will agree and make Gary’s temporary stay of execution permanent.”Featured Image Credit: Tennessee Department of CorrectionTopics: US News, Death Row, Crime, True Crime

LazyTown’s Julianna Rose Mauriello Draws Attention With Her New Career

Published 09:00 4 Oct 2026 GMT+1Years of wild internet theories followed her exit, but her next move was far from HollywoodJulianna Rose Mauriello was the face of LazyTown as Stephanie, the bubbly pink-haired 8-year-old who teamed up with Sportacus to get a town of couch potatoes moving. Cast at around 12, she played the character across the show's first 52 episodes and even earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for her work. When the series returned in 2013, she was gone, and she didn't go chasing other roles.Mauriello is now a licensed pediatric occupational therapist, having earned a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from Columbia University.AdvertThe Ivy League graduate specializes in sensory needs and child development and, according to her LinkedIn profile, is also a certified autism specialist. She keeps a low profile, with no public social media accounts, and has never publicly announced her exit from show business.Julianna Rose Mauriello played Stephanie across LazyTown's first 52 episodes and earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for the role. (Photo by Claire Greenway/Getty Images)Why did Stephanie leave LazyTown?Viewers got a shock when LazyTown returned for its third season in 2013 with a different actress in the pink bob.Chloe Lang took over for seasons three and four, as well as the show's Motivational Campaigns. No official press release explained the change, and with LazyTown memes taking off online, forums filled with wild theories, from fake reports of her death to legal troubles.None of it had any basis in reality. After leaving, Mauriello took a handful of minor voice roles, most notably in the 2013 animated miniseries The Doc Files, per IMDb, before going back to school. She isn't the only child star to swap Hollywood sets for higher education. Danny Lloyd of The Shining, Ross Bagley of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Erik Per Sullivan of Malcolm in the Middle all did the same.LazyTown ran from 2004 to 2014. It debuted on Nickelodeon and was filmed at a specialized studio in Reykjavík, Iceland. (Photo by Pablo Blazquez Dominguez/WireImage)How popular was LazyTown?Make no mistake, LazyTown was a huge success when it aired. The Icelandic series was created by world-champion aerobic gymnast Magnús Scheving, who also starred as Sportacus. It debuted on Nickelodeon and ran from 2004 to 2014. Mixing real actors, physical puppetry and CGI sets, it was reportedly one of the most expensive kids' shows ever made, costing more than five times the average budget per episode.LazyTown was a major ratings hit when it debuted in the United States in 2004, drawing 10 million viewers in its first week and ranking as the top-viewed children's program on Nick Jr. for ages 2 to 11. It reached 57 million viewers in the UK alone and was dubbed into more than 30 languages, airing in more than 180 countries. The premise saw an 8-year-old girl move in with her uncle in a town of terminally lazy residents.Stephanie teamed up with Sportacus to get everyone moving, swapping candy for fruits and veggies dubbed ‘sports candy’.Mauriello's run covered the first 52 episodes. The show then went on a long hiatus before returning for its third season in 2013, when Chloe Lang took over as Stephanie. (Photo by Angel Delgado/Clasos.com/LatinContent via Getty Images)Scheving explained the idea behind it: "LazyTown is basically about motivation. So what do I call motivation? I call it ‘go.’ The show is going to inspire kids to go. Go fishing. Go dancing. Go live."The effect was real. When the live stage show launched in Iceland, supermarkets sold mini-vegetables under the ‘sports candy’ label."They couldn't import enough baby carrots to Iceland. They were sold out throughout the country," Scheving recalled in a 2007 BBC interview. In 2011, UK Health Secretary Andrew Lansley looked to the show for the Change4Life healthy living campaign, with official briefing documents sent to health experts citing a goal to ‘harness the popularity of LazyTown’.Mauriello's acting career began at age six in Sesame Street: Fiesta! in 1997, followed by voice work in Midori's Nintendoland Bakery in 2003. Around 2008, a mashup of her signature song Cooking by the Book with hip-hop artist Lil Jon racked up millions of views on YouTube.Featured Image Credit: Nickelodeon's Nick Jr.Topics: Nostalgia, Film and TV

Shane Burcaw Shares Touching Pregnancy Milestone After Revealing His Biggest Worry

Shane Burcaw Shares Touching Pregnancy Milestone After Revealing His Biggest Worry

Published 23:53 4 Oct 2026 GMT+1The couple, better known as 'Squirmy and Grubs', announced their pregnancy last month TikTok stars Shane and Hannah Burcaw have shared a sweet new update on their pregnancy after the dad-to-be shared one of his ‘biggest worries’ about becoming a parent. On 8 September, the content creators announced they were expecting their first child, revealing that they had initially decided to enjoy ‘this special time in private’ and that Hannah was 20 weeks pregnant. The couple, who have around 1.85 million subscribers on their Squirmy and Grubs YouTube channel, said the new arrival would be here in January and that they would bring fans along on their journey to parenthood. In a candid post shared earlier this week, Shane - who has spinal muscular atrophy and uses a wheelchair - opened up about one of his biggest concerns when it came to being a dad. AdvertHannah and Shane Burcaw shared their thrilling baby news on Instagram (Instagram/shaneburcaw)“One of my biggest worries about having children is the extent to which I’ll be able to physically interact with them,” he wrote. Shane went on to say that this fear also extended to being able to feel their little one kicking while still in the womb. He continued: “I know and believe that parenting and love do not require physical ability, but I still grapple with those deep down anxieties at times, especially as our baby began kicking in Hannah’s womb a few weeks ago. I hoped, but didn’t know for certain whether, I’d be able to reach my arms far enough to feel the kicking myself.”But in a touching clip shared alongside the post, Shane could be seen shutting down some of those fears as he lovingly held Hannah’s growing bump as the baby kicked. “Guess what?” he asked. “I’m feeling the baby kick.” Hannah then chipped in to say it was Shane’s ‘new favourite activity’. “The baby is already stronger than I am,” Shane said with a laugh, while Hannah shared that she’d been feeling the baby moving around since she was 15 weeks pregnant. "It’s the most wild thing in the world to feel it moving around in there,” he said. The couple also let slip that they know the gender of their baby but haven’t shared it with their millions of followers just yet. The couple shared a cute milestone update on their pregnancy (YouTube/Squirmy and Grubs)In an interview with PEOPLE shortly after their pregnancy announcement, Shane spoke about how much of his parenting would not be impacted by his disability. “One thing that has made me feel good is that they are reminding me that so much of parenting is not the physical stuff,” Shane said. “A human being, yes, needs physical care as a baby, but a lot of parenting is about the mind and emotions and learning and love.”He added: “My disability will not inhibit me from doing that with our kid in any way. So that’s been really reassuring for me.”He also revealed that they’d look for ways and products that would make life easier, including a variety of pillows that will allow the little one to lie comfortably on Shane’s lap as well as a carrier that can be attached to his wheelchair. “I can’t wait to figure out all those little ways that we can make it work,” he added.
