Nidal Hasan’s Firing Squad Execution Draws Attention Over Livestream Plan

Nidal Hasan’s Firing Squad Execution Draws Attention Over Livestream Plan

Updated 23:06 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 22:37 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1breakingHegseth said 'We'll make sure that people are able to watch it', according to reportsFort Hood gunman Nidal Malik Hasan’s execution by firing squad will be streamed live, the Pentagon has confirmed. The Associated Press reported Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as promising the public would be able to watch the execution on December 3, in an interview with the conservative Real America’s Voice News.He said, “We'll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it's public.”Asked if Hasan has made any final requests or otherwise contacted the Trump administration, Hegseth replied, “Don't care. We'll see him on December 3rd.”AdvertThe interview was conducted while Hegseth was aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, visiting a crew returning from deployment during the Iran war.The Pentagon confirmed on Thursday that the execution would be livestreamed and further details would be issued. The news comes after Trump signed off on the execution on Monday.Hasan’s attack on a Texas base in 2009 left 13 people dead and 32 injured. The Army Major and psychologist was convicted in a military court. He walked into a building where soldiers were lined up for immunisations and medical clearance before they were due to be deployed. Shouting “Allahu akbar” – Arabic for “God is great” he opened fire with a laser-sighted handgun.Hasan was court-martialled in 2013 and found guilty of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 of attempted murder. Of those killed, 12 were soldiers and one was a civilian. Hasan was arrested after he was shot at the scene and has been held in detention at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.Hegseth confirmed no US service member had been executed by firing squad since WW2, with the most recent military execution taking place in 1961, when Army Private John Bennett was hanged.Trump has previously criticised the Iranian regime for the public execution of protesters, and has raised the issue as one of the reasons for taking military action against the Islamist regime. "We've been told that the killing in Iran is stopping," Trump told reporters on 14 January. "It's stopping and there's no plan for executions."He repeated the claim on 20 January: "We let them know that if that happens, that will be a very bad day for them. And they decided not to do it. They didn't hang the people."A little over a month on, in his State of the Union address, he said: "We stopped them from hanging a lot of them with the threat of serious violence."Featured Image Credit: (Photo by Bell County Sheriff's Office via Getty Images)

Samantha Rensvold Finds Long-Lost Sister in a ‘Parent Trap’ Softball Moment

Samantha Rensvold Finds Long-Lost Sister in a ‘Parent Trap’ Softball Moment

Updated 18:20 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 16:42 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1They didn't even bother taking a DNA test as it was so clear they are long-lost sistersOn 1 August 2025, Samantha Rensvold was playing in a softball tournament in Belgrade, Montana, when her teammate spotted something odd on the opposing team.Pretty much like something straight out of the Parent Trap, it became clear that there was another player who looked an awful lot like the 19-year-old.And in a film-like twist, it turned out that it was actually her long-lost sister.Rensvold had grown up knowing she was adopted and had eventually found out that somewhere out there, she had a younger sister. But because her adoption was closed, she couldn’t even begin to think where to start looking for her.AdvertSo, it was almost as though the stars lined up when the now 18-year-old Kyann Dean was playing against her in Montana.Samantha's teammate spotted someone who looked just like her. (Instagram/samantha.rensvold)“I hadn’t seen her close up yet when my teammate was pointing out to me,” Rensvold told PEOPLE, admitting that when she did have a quick look, she was ‘pretty much in denial’ about it.“I was like, ‘There’s no way that this would happen to me right now.’”She decided not to speak to the similar-looking player after the game out of fear for being wrong. But when she got home, her mum persuaded her to take a look at the roster for the softball tournament, with an important detail becoming clear to the mum.“We looked at the roster and she saw that her name was ‘Kyann,’” Rensvold explained. She added that her mum knew that her birth mum had named her sister this.“So my mom was like, ‘That has to be your sister. That’s not a coincidence,’” the teen recalled. Her mum told Inside Edition: "We were just freaking out. We were in tears. It was like, ‘Oh my God'."The pair then ended up in the same place again when Rensvold was playing and Dean was watching with her family.“I could hear my mom go up to Kyann’s mom and start talking about the situation, and then they figured it out,” she explained to PEOPLE.The two mums confirmed the name of the birth mum and where they were born with it becoming clear there was ‘no way’ the pair weren’t sisters.Without feeling any need for a DNA test, Dean and Rensvold were excited to find each other. The pair had grown up about 400 miles apart in different parts of Montana.Rensvold only knew she had a sister after being tracked down my their biological brother. And they don’t know ‘the exact reason’ why they were separated and put up for adoption.Rensvold, whos biological parents were 19 and 17 when she was born, assumed they were ‘too young’ and wanted them to have a ‘better life’.“What I don’t know is why they had two more [children] and then gave them both up for adoption,” she added.Rensvold met her biological mum when she was 12, and while she knows about the reunion, hasn’t met Dean yet.The sisters don’t just look alike and both play softball, but share the same ‘little giggle’ and played the same volleyball position in high school. And nowadays, Rensvold is happy to ‘put a face’ to her long-lost sister.Featured Image Credit: Instagram/samantha.rensvoldTopics: US News, Viral

Prince Harry reveals the everyday trigger behind his terrifying panic attacks

Updated 17:19 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 16:50 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1'I had become seriously depleted', the royal admittedWarning: This article contains discussion of suicide which some readers may find distressing.Prince Harry has opened up about his long-standing struggles with mental health, revealing he experienced panic attacks while serving in the Army before 'slipping into depression' after leaving the UK.The Duke of Sussex has long campaigned for greater awareness around mental health and the importance of seeking support, but the 40-year-old has now detailed his own struggles in a recent interview.During a deeply personal new MasterClass episode, Harry opened up about how serving in the British army when he was just 20 served as a 'distraction' to what was going on in his mind following the death of his mother, Princess Diana.Advert"For 15, 20 years, when I was being asked, 'Are you okay?' My response was, 'I’m fine.'"It was numbness, emotional shutdown. And without knowing it, adrenaline was pushing me, was driving me."The Duke noted that he didn't 'really think about much else apart from the task at hand', further fuelling a downward spiral.Harry has also opened up about his mental health struggles while living in Canada. (Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images)And it was after returning from Afghanistan in 2013 that he began to recognise how the way he was living was contributing to his trauma. He said: "The things that I saw, the things I experienced, appeared to be a trigger for other traumas that had stored themselves within me."I started to realize that I probably had become seriously depleted when just putting a simple dress shirt on - the tightening of the collar - literally felt like I was suffocating, and I would be experiencing panic attacks just in the car on the way to work."But it's not the only time he suffered. After stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating with his young family, Harry detailed 'slipping into depression' for two weeks after arriving in Canada."I experienced this adrenaline crash, something that I’d never experienced before. The brothers' relationship remains strained. (Dominic Lipinski / POOL / AFP via Getty Images)"I actually slipped into depression for about two weeks and I felt like I couldn’t function without adrenaline."Prior to their relationship deteriorating, Harry and his older brother, Prince William, worked together on a number of mental health initiatives, using their public platform to encourage people to speak out.Alongside the Kate Middleton, now Princess of Wales, they launched the Heads Together campaign in 2016, which brought together several mental health charities and aimed to tackle the stigma. The brothers have since spoken publicly about the strain in their relationship, with Harry previously describing their relationship as strained, while William has largely remained private about the rift.Harry moved back to the UK with his wife Meghan Markle, former Suits actress, just last month, and their young children Archie and Lilibet are now enrolled in UK schools. And the mom-of-two has also been open about her mental health struggles since becoming part of the royal family. In her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said she experienced what she described as a 'very clear and real and frightening thought' of taking her life while pregnant with Archie. The 39-year-old said she reached a point where she 'just didn't want to be alive anymore'.If you or someone you know is struggling or in a mental health crisis, help is available through Mental Health America. What Happens Next to Christa Pike After Her Failed Execution?

What Happens Next to Christa Pike After Her Failed Execution?

Published 16:24 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Pike's death sentence was carried out after her legal team exhausted every appeal they could, but Pike is still aliveAfter 30 years on death row, when Christa Pike's sentence of execution was carried out, she survived, leaving what comes next for the convicted killer uncertain.Pike had been sentenced to death by lethal injection for the murder of Colleen Slemmer, with the original sentence passed when she was still a teenager being to the electric chair. When Pike's execution was attempted after decades of legal wrangling and appeals it was using the lethal injection, but despite receiving two doses of pentobarbital Pike is still alive and, in a surreal development given her intended fate, receiving treatment in hospital. There she is reportedly now able to speak and to walk again, though in an inhibited manner.AdvertTennessee governor Bill Lee, who denied Pike's plea for mercy, has now paused death sentences in the state after Pike's became the second botched execution in the state in a year. While Lee has ordered an investigation into state executions in Tennessee, the question now looms of what is now to become of Pike, who is now in the bizarre grey area of what happens when someone survives their death sentence. There are three options which may be the course of action selected for Pike's case, the BBC reports.Execution using a different methodOther prisoners who have survived executions (LADbible/Tennessee/Idaho/Alabama/Ohio Department of Correction)Tennessee could make another attempt to execute Pike using a different method from the lethal injection. However, Tennessee-based defence attorney Stephen Ross Johnson told the BBC that this could present additional legal challenges to those seeking out this conclusion.Trying to execute Pike using a different method would likely require approval from the governor's office and even the state legislature, he said. Some politicians in Tennessee are already calling for Pike's execution to be attempted via other means, with Congressman Tim Burchett sharing on social media that he has filed a bill to 'bring back hanging' while Senator Marsha Blackburn said to 'bring back the electric chair'.Pike committed the murder in 1995 before Tennessee changed the law around execution, and was originally sentenced to the electric chair, which could provide a potential lead for people calling for this method. However, Pike would also need to waive her legal right to die by lethal injection, and given that it's not clear if she is legally capable of doing that after the previous attempt, this could bar using a different method.Try to execute Pike using lethal injection againChrista Pike is still alive, having survived her lethal injection (Tennessee Department of Corrections)This is another option available to the Tennessee Department of Correction, but also presents a lot of challenges, Johnson said."For the state to attempt to execute her again using the same methodology, they would have severe legal hurdles," said Johnson.Pike's execution is the second botched execution in one year, which Johnson said could create an opportunity for lawyers to challenge the legality of and the practice of how the state administers lethal injection. There is also the element of 'cruel and unusual punishment', which may apply due to Pike having small veins and thrombocytosis, which complicates administering the injection. Her medical condition combined with the botched attempt could make a strong legal case against attempting again to execute Pike by lethal injection.Commute Pike's sentenceChrista Pike, pictured in 1995 (WBIR10)Owing to the current pause on executions in the state after Pike's execution was botched, it is unlikely that the case is going to be making significant movement towards a further execution anytime soon."At a minimum there's going to be some significant delay while this issue is studied by the state", said Johnson.A combination of bad press from the botched execution as well as the complications from Pike's health, and whether all procedures were properly followed during the attempted execution, could make commuting her sentence a desirable option. And there is also a precedent for this in US law as well, as Alabama death row prisoner Doyle Hamm was cancelled after executioners spent over two hours trying to find a vein.In the end, his sentence was commuted, and he died of natural causes.READ MORE: All of the failed lethal injection executions in the last decadeFeatured Image Credit: TDOCTopics: US News, Crime, Death Row

Michael Douglas Reveals His Candid Response to Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Ultimatum

Michael Douglas Reveals His Candid Response to Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Ultimatum

Published 12:23 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Douglas says he kept five women in separate cities, which he thought was a 'respectful' approach Michael Douglas has revealed that Catherine Zeta-Jones gave him a clear condition early in their relationship: if he wanted to be with her, he could not be seeing anyone else. The 82-year-old details the conversation in his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, according to PEOPLE. Douglas writes that Zeta-Jones, now 57, "told me she understood that I was a single guy who'd come out of a long marriage, but she would only be monogamous."He recalls her telling him: "I'm not interested in dating you if you're dating other people. You can either continue with them or end it and be with me."AdvertAt the time, Douglas was newly separated from his first wife, Diandra Douglas, whom he split from in 1995. He writes that he had been seeing five other women, who knew he was recently separated and in the process of getting a divorce."I made sure they all lived in different cities, which felt like a respectful way to be non-monogamous,' he wrote. According to Douglas, none of the women pushed for more. "None of them asked for a commitment or even asked what else I was up to. I am sure they were seeing other people, too," he wrote. His answer to Zeta-Jones was to ask for a little time. He recalls telling her to wait because he had 'five quick calls' to make, and she replied: "Five? You have to make five calls?"He made them the same day. "That day, I called each one to say I met somebody and would no longer be able to continue seeing them. They all took it well," he added. Douglas says he first saw Zeta-Jones in an early screening of The Mask of Zorro before meeting her at the Deauville American Film Festival in France. (Photo by Kym Illman/Getty Images)How did Michael Douglas meet Catherine Zeta-JonesDouglas' memoir doesn't skip the romantic chapters that came before her. He writes candidly about past affairs, including with his Romancing the Stone costar Kathleen Turner and his Basic Instinct costar Jeanne Tripplehorn.By the time he met Zeta-Jones, though, he was already smitten. He first saw her in an early screening of her 1998 film The Mask of Zorro. A few weeks later, he happened to cross paths with her at the Deauville American Film Festival in France, where he was promoting A Perfect Murder. He asked his publicist to arrange a meeting over drinks, and he says he was quickly impressed by more than her looks."She was smart, funny, unpretentious, and, yes, breathtakingly beautiful. She just seemed so confident and self-assured, too," he recalls in the book.He was even more taken with her after a dinner with Zeta-Jones, her Zorro costar Antonio Banderas and Banderas' then-wife Melanie Griffith. There was one problem, though, as Douglas admits he was 'smashed' by the end of the night. As he walked her to the hotel elevator to say good night, he blurted out what would become one of his most memorable lines: "I'm going to be the father of your children.""It wasn't a cheap pickup line. It was the truth," he writes.Douglas and Zeta-Jones married in 1999 and have two children, Dylan and Carys. Douglas also shares a son, Cameron, 47, with Diandra, 70.Speaking about his relationship with Zeta-Jones today, Douglas says the connection has only deepened."There's just an unknown at a certain point over time," he says. Jamaal Howard’s Final Moments Draw Attention After Christa Pike Survived Same Drug

Jamaal Howard’s Final Moments Draw Attention After Christa Pike Survived Same Drug

Published 12:28 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Jamaal Howard was executed via lethal injection yesterdayIt took just 30 seconds for a US inmate to stop moving after being given the lethal injection, using the same drug given to Christa Pike last month. Last night, the US state of Texas executed Jamaal Howard, a 46-year-old man who'd been given the death sentence for fatally shooting convenience store clerk Vickie Swartout in 2000. According to a report from AP News, Howard was given a dose of pentobarbital, the medication given to Christa Pike twice during her botched execution on 30 September.Reports from those in attendance at the Huntsville prison stated that Howard had taken a couple of breaths and gasped as the high dose of the sedative drug began taking effect. AdvertHe then began to make snoring sounds, which became quieter and quieter as time passed. Jamaal Howard was executed yesterday (Texas Department of Criminal Justice)It took just 30 seconds for Howard to stop moving. He was officially pronounced dead 19 minutes later at 8:03pm, local time. His final statement has since been released to the media, with Howard apologising to the family of Swartout. Howard was the first person to be put to death after Pike's failed execution, which has since led to the state of Tennessee halting further executions, pending an investigation.According to The Tennesseean reporters who attended Pike's attempted execution, the 50-year-old had complained of pain in her arm following the first dose of pentobarbital, telling officers: "The vein in my arm feels like it's about to bust."LADbibleIt was later revealed that it had taken over an hour and seven needles before prison officers could establish an IV line in her arm, while witnesses waiting behind the curtain could hear crying and whimpering. Pike's attorney Randy Spivy would later claim that one of the needles appeared to be bent after being removed. The blinds were first opened at around 7:26pm, allowing reporters and witnesses a view of Pike strapped to a gurney and covered by a sheet.Christa Pike is the first person in history to survive two lethal injections (Tennessee Department of Corrections)By 7:41pm, it was signalled to witnesses that a round of pentobarbital had been administered. However, those in attendance noted that Pike was still conscious, with one reporter remarking that she was still talking. When it became apparent that Pike had survived the first dose of pentobarbital, a second one was administered. The curtains were closed again at 8:05pm, with people still able to hear the sound of Pike's breathing, signalling that the drugs had again failed to take effect. After nearly an hour of waiting, the chamber was cleared by officials and Pike was transferred to hospital. It is not currently clear exactly how Pike was able to survive the execution, with some medical experts suggesting the IV line may have been incorrectly placed. Pike remains in hospital after the failed execution, with recent reports revealing that she is conscious, able to communicate and move. You can either continue with them or end it and be with me.”The couple met in the late 1990s and Michael Douglas was smitten from the get-go (Arnold Jerocki/Getty Images)Douglas, who was newly divorced from his first wife Diandra at the time, was happy to agree to her conditions but he had to do something first, well he had to do five things first.“I told her wait here I have to make five quick calls. ‘Five? You have to make five calls?’” he recalled.“Just after my marriage, I had been seeing five other women. They knew I was recently separated and in the process of getting a divorce“I made sure they all lived in different cities, which felt like a respectful way to be non-monogamous.”The Wall Street actor said that none of the other ladies he had been seeing had wanted anything serious or questioned whether he was meeting other women, adding: “I am sure they were seeing other people, too.”So, when the time came to break the news that he’d no longer be seeing them as he’d met someone else, they ‘all took it well’.Douglas also revealed the rather cheesy but 100% accurate line he used on Zeta-Jones shortly after they first met.The pair have been married for 26 years after Catherine Zeta-Jones issued an ultimatum (Lars Niki/Corbis via Getty Images)The smitten-star admitted that after having dinner with Zeta-Jones and her Zorro co-star Anthonio Banderas and his then-wife Melanie Griffith, he got ‘smashed’ on booze and as he was getting ready to say goodbye, he told her: I’m going to be the father of your children.”Douglas wrote: “It wasn’t a cheap pickup line. It was the truth.”It sure was, as the pair are now mum and dad two kids: son Dylan, aged 26, and a daughter named Carys, who is 23.With more than a quarter of a century together, Douglas recently told PEOPLE that their love is stronger than ever.“It goes beyond being attracted to somebody in this matter. It’s just an unknown bond of being close and… a mutual respect,” he said.Sharing the secrets to their longevity, he added: "A good sense of humour doesn't hurt, number one.“And talking things out. Never using the words 'never' or 'always' when you get angry with each other."And putting yourself in the other person's position before you make your value judgment. But you gotta have fun.”Featured Image Credit: Arnold Jerocki/Getty ImagesTopics: Celebrity, Michael Douglas, Sex and Relationships

Why Jamaal Howard’s Execution Is Being Linked to Christa Pike

Updated 03:19 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 02:31 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Jamaal Howard becomes the first US man executed since the failed lethal injection of Christa PikeHe was given the same lethal drug Pike survivedThe first death row inmate since the failed Christa Pike attempt has been executed in Texas.Jamaal Howard, who was convicted of the fatal shooting of a store clerk in 2000, was put to death on Wednesday evening, reports The Associated Press. He was pronounced dead after having been given a fatal dose of the same lethal injection drug Christa Pike survived on September 30.Christa Pike has regained consciousness after (Christa Pike's legal team)AdvertAt the state prison in Huntsville, he was given a fatal dose of the poison pentobarbital after issuing an apology to the family of his victim, Vickie Swartout. While witnesses, including his victim’s family members, stood feet away from him, he said, “I wish that you accept my apology and I wish for your forgiveness.” He added, “I’m sorry for what happened. I wish you can learn to forgive me one of these days,” he said, shortly before the injection. He also said he was “in a good state of mind to find peace and the Lord, so I thank y’all.” He concluded with: “Hey, enjoy life, and peace to y’all.” Howard reportedly took a few breaths and then gasped after the injection had been administered and began to take effect. He made snoring sounds, coughed, then resumed making more snoring sounds.A Texas execution chamber like this is where Howard met his end (Photo by Paul Harris/Getty Images)After around 30 seconds he stopped moving and he was pronounced dead within 19 minutes. His sister, who was amongst those gathered at the observation window, became distressed, stating several times, “Get me out of here,” before she was assisted in leaving by officers.Howard’s spiritual advisor, Dr Jeff Hood, earlier claimed the killer was ‘intellectually disabled’ and incapable of fully understanding he was due to be executed.Speaking to Metro, he said he told Howard that Christa Pike had been given two doses of the same drug: "I thought he would be upset, but I was wrong. “He told me, 'I am not worried, because the warden will just come and shoot me in the head', which is clearly not based in reality."A court found that at the age of 20, Howard stole his grandfather’s gun which he used to shoot and kill Vickie. He stole $114 and a packet of cigarettes and was sentenced to death in 2001.Death row inmates are restrained before they are given a lethal injection (Photo by Andrew Lichtenstein/Corbis via Getty Images)An expert at this trial estimated his IQ was between 65 and 70 – around the same as an 11- or 12-year-old child. His legal team claimed he failed to recognise them, but Texas argued that there is no evidence of him being mentally disabled."When you talk about the lethal injection drugs," Dr Hood said, "He thinks you are talking about drugs that would get you high or something."The advisor added: "He really has no idea it will end his life.”"My worst fear is going into the chamber with him today, and him telling me he doesn’t know what’s going on."Featured Image Credit: (AP)

Naked Gold Donald Trump Statue Sparks Reactions at European Parliament

Naked Gold Donald Trump Statue Sparks Reactions at European Parliament

Published 23:49 7 Oct 2026 GMT+1An eight-foot naked Donald Trump statue covered in 23-carat gold leaf has been unveiled at the European Parliament in StrasbourgA gold statue of a naked Donald Trump atop the shoulders of another man has been unveiled in Strasbourg. The statue, which stands at more than eight-feet tall, is titled The Orange Plague or The King of Injustice and is the work of Danish sculptor Jens Galschiøt. Finished in 23-carat gold leaf, the statue has been put on display at the European Parliament in the French city of Strasbourg. The naked figure is holding an extra-long golf club in one hand and a small set of scales in the other, while a ball, designed to look like the world, lies on the ground in front of him. AdvertMeanwhile, the poor bloke tasked with carrying Trump on his shoulders looks tired and worn out. A card next to the piece, which is signed The King of Injustice, reads: “I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden. I would do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back.”'The Orange Plague' was created by Danish sculptor Jens Galschiot (Halil Sagirkaya/Anadolu via Getty Images)Galschiøt said he created the satirical piece, which was inspired by the old tale of The Emperor’s New Clothes, as a criticism of Trump’s climate policies."The sculpture is a satirical out-cry against Trump and the US assault on the green transition and the rule-based world order," he said.He said the artwork was not aimed at the parliament itself. "It is about the attempts by the great powers to dominate, control and reshape the world according to their own interests. Trump is an extreme and very visible symbol of this development," he said."I have made him naked and covered him in gold because sometimes satire can say things that political language cannot."The website for the piece states: “The sculpture is inspired by H. C. Andersen’s tale The Emperor’s New Clothes, in which a vain ruler parades naked, believing him-self dressed in the finest garments. The illusion — sustained by fear and flattery — endures until a child cries out, ‘He’s not wearing any clothes’ – and the emperor becomes a figure of ridicule.”The piece was created as a criticism of Donald Trump's climate policies (MAURO PIMENTEL/AFP via Getty Images) Visitors to the statue can also get their hands on their own mini version of the piece, known as ‘protest tokens’, which will be given away for free across the three-day exhibition. Or if you have access to a 3D printer, you can make your own with the free files available on Galschiøt’s website. As yet, it’s not known if Trump is aware of The Orange Plague and he hasn’t commented on its existence - but we can probably assume he won’t love it. However, Per Clausen, the left-wing Danish MEP who invited the artist to display the sculpture, told Deutsche Welle he isn’t worried about any potential backlash from the POTUS. He said: “If someone is so thin-skinned that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage.”Galschiøt said he is ‘very excited’ to see how the exhibition is received by the ‘decision makers of Europe’ during its time on display. Christa Pike’s First Questions After Waking Up Spark Attention

Christa Pike’s First Questions After Waking Up Spark Attention

Updated 20:37 7 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 19:21 7 Oct 2026 GMT+1Pike's lawyer said she was 'angry and confused about everything'Christa Pike's lawyer has revealed her first questions from her hospital bed after she woke up following her botched execution, 'to the shock of everyone'.Today (October 7), a court hearing and subsequent press conference was held in Tennessee following the failed execution of Pike last week.During the hearing, it was confirmed that the state has no new order to carry out her execution following the botched attempt on September 30.Then, speaking at the press conference afterwards, her lawyer Randy Spivey shared some further insight into how his client is doing after regaining consciousness and revealed some of the first things Pike said.AdvertSpivey said: "Our understanding was the first thing she said was ‘Where am I and who are you?’"There’s still a lot of cognitive confusion, and so I will say that she has wanted to know what’s happened, and she’s asked about several people. She’s asked about her team. She’s asked about the victim’s family."I think she is angry and confused about everything right now."Pike's victim was Colleen Slemmer. She was just 19 years old at the time of her 1995 murder.Christa Pike would have been the first woman to be executed in Tennessee for 200 years (Christa Pike's legal team)Slemmer's mother May Martinez previously called Pike's failed execution 'a mess'. She said she had expected Pike to regain consciousness and doesn't think Tennessee will try and execute her again. She told WBIR: "It doesn’t matter what I think, they’re going to do what they’re going to do"Spivey said on Monday night (October 5), Pike was believed to be brain dead and her team were preparing for life support to be removed. But the following day, Pike regained consciousness and started talking 'to the shock of everyone', something Spivey said he 'does not have an explanation' for.He added that Pike has a 'long road to recovery', adding: "She has a blood clot in one of her arms. She has pneumonia. She is not able to swallow yet, so she has not eaten."The Christa Pike case in numbers (UNILAD/Tennessee Department of Correction/WBIR-TV)"She cannot move either of her arms," Spivey continued. "Both of her arms and hands are tremendously swollen, and we do not know what, if any, function she will regain in her arms."Elsewhere, Pike's lawyer said that the execution team were trying for an hour to find Pike's veins to administer the lethal injection."She helped the execution team find what they thought was venous access," he said. "She was kind and polite as they worked for an hour, stabbing her arm with needle after needle, and then she felt the burn of the pentobarbital."And then she woke up in hospital surrounded by people she didn't know with a tube down her throat."Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital (Getty Stock Image)After Pike's failed killing, Jonathan Groner, MD, Emeritus Professor of Clinical Surgery at Ohio State University College of Medicine, spoke to UNILAD about pentobarbital and the effect that it can have on the body.Had Pike's execution gone to plan, the death row inmate should have died within 15 to 20 mins.Explaining what exactly pentobarbital is, Groner said: "It is a short acting barbiturate. It is used to treat seizures and can be used for 'medically induced coma' for patients with severe head trauma."It can also be used for procedural sedations. It is no longer used for general anesthesia."Featured Image Credit: TDOCTopics: Christa Pike, US News

Mia Goth Files for Divorce From Shia LaBeouf After 10 Years

Updated 20:01 7 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 19:41 7 Oct 2026 GMT+1The actors had a tumultuous relationship and have separated several times before, after having met on set of a film back in 2012After 10 years of marriage, Mia Goth has filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf. This comes months after the Transformers star pleaded guilty to battery charges over the New Orleans bar incident and just one day after his ex-girlfriend, FKA Twigs settled a lawsuit against him.According to court documents reviewed by TMZ, Goth listed their date of separation as 28 July 2025, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the her and LaBeouf’s split. The pair met back in 2012 while filming Nymphomaniac and are said to have married in October 2016 in a Las Vegas ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator.AdvertThey have split up and reconciled several times before, with a separation public in 2018, eventually then welcoming a child together back in 2022.The news of their divorce comes months after he pleaded guilty. (Dave Benett/WireImage)In February of this year, it was reported by PEOPLE that Goth and LaBeouf had split up in 2025.A source claimed to the outlet that their relationship had ‘always been complicated’.“They weren't getting along and had a lot of drama last year,” the source added.Goth reportedly ‘encouraged’ the actor to move out.“She loves him, but she also doesn't need him. She's very independent. She has her own life, her own career and her priority is their daughter,” they claimed. “Shia loves their daughter and stays in touch.”The LADbible Group has contacted representatives for Goth and LaBeouf for comment. That news followed LaBeouf’s arrests from an incident on 17 February during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans. And in June, he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanour battery charges after allegations he struck three men at a bar. He was arrested after reportedly punching two men and head-butting a third at about 12:45am, having been told the leave R Bar by staff after becoming increasingly aggressive.LaBeouf received a sentence of two years’ probation as well as rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, sensitivity training and anger management classes.Goth and LaBeouf first met in 2012. (Justin Goff Photos/Getty Images)Just before the news of this divorce filing, it was reported that yesterday (6 October) LaBeouf's ex-girlfriend Twigs (real name Tahliah Barnett) had dropped her lawsuit against him.The singer sued the actor back in March after claiming he had enforced an illegal agreement to silence her. Billboard reports that a court filing made in LA on Tuesday said she had agreed to drop the case as he confirmed the NDA was 'terminated and void' and her case had therefore 'achieved its purpose'."This represents an important victory for the principle that women who speak out about sexual abuse should not be silenced by NDAs that contravene California law,” her lawyer, Matthew Rosengart writes. “FKA twigs is proud to be able to continue speaking about her experience and advocating for other women, including those who may lack the resources to speak out and defend themselves.”Shawn Holley, LaBeouf's lawyer, said to LADbible: "Shia wishes Twigs nothing but the best in her life and career and, to that end, has agreed to end their long-standing dispute. Twigs has spoken about this matter for years and there is now nothing to prevent her from continuing to do so.” Featured Image Credit: Fred Duval/FilmMagicTopics: Shia LaBeouf, Celebrity News, Entertainment

Christa Pike’s Fate Unclear as State Reveals No New Execution Order

Christa Pike’s Fate Unclear as State Reveals No New Execution Order

Updated 18:42 7 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 18:36 7 Oct 2026 GMT+1The convicted killer has woken up despite being administered two doses of a lethal injection A state attorney has confirmed that, as it stands, there is no new execution order for Christa Pike.Pike was initally scheduled to be killed on September 30, but the death row inmate miraculously survived. She was then taken to an unspecified Nashville hospital where medics carried out life-saving measures. Pike remained unconscious for several days, but has since woken up.In a court hearing today (October 7), Assistant Attorney General John W. Ayers confirmed that there's no new execution date for Pike.AdvertJudge I’Ashea Myles asked him: "So is the state’s position that the state is not going to revive an order. I understand that all executions have been suspended for now. Is that going to be permanent or is the state prepared to take the position that Miss Pike will not be rescheduled?"Ayers replied that he was not in a position to answer that question. The judge went on to push: "But you’re also not in a position to say that tomorrow a new execution order will not be presented. Is that correct?"He then told the court, as per CNN: "There is no pending execution order for Miss Pike. There is no allegation that one is coming."Christa Pike has spent 30 years on death row (Tennessee Department of Corrections)The 50-year-old killer was sentenced to death in 1996 following the murder of 19-year-old Coleen Slemmer, whom Pike believed was trying to take her boyfriend.Following 30 years on death row for the brutal murder, she was set to become the first woman in 200 years to be executed by the state of Tennessee. But Pike went onto make history for totally different reasons.Instead, she became the first person in history to survive two doses of the so-called 'lethal' injection, as witnesses in the execution chamber reported hearing 'loud snoring' coming from Pike. She was taken to hospital following the botched execution, where medical staff worked to remove the drug, pentobarbital, from her system to save her life. And her representatives reported just last night (October 6) that against all odds, Pike is now conscious and speaking following the traumatic ordeal.Pike is now conscious following her botched execution (Christa Pike's legal team)In an emailed statement shared with The Tennessean, lawyers Randy Spivey and Kelly Gleason said: "Against all odds, Christa Pike is conscious, speaking, and continues to receive critical medical care."Despite the severe damage she endured to her arms, she is still handcuffed and shackled to the bed. Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery."Her lawyers expressed their gratitude to first responders 'who treated Christa like a human and have provided exceptional care to her'.Featured Image Credit: Tennessee Department of CorrectionsTopics: Christa Pike, Crime, Death Row, US News, Court
