Bo’s Bagels removes Harlem mascot after viral ‘blackface’ accusation

Bo’s Bagels removes Harlem mascot after viral ‘blackface’ accusation

Updated 00:21 20 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 00:03 20 Oct 2026 GMT+1A bagel shop owner has spoken out after a viral video accusing his business of displaying a 'blackface bagel'A New York bagel shop has removed its mascot after it became the focus of a racism storm.Bo’s Bagels, in Harlem, had a large cardboard cut-out of a cartoon bagel outside its store. The huge sign, which doubles as a chalkboard, shows the bagel wearing a pair of sunglasses and gold grills with Harlem World written across them and a gold ring that reads NYC.However, the mascot has found itself at the centre of a racism row after photographer Carl Broady branded it a ‘disrespectful caricature of black people’ in a post shared on Instagram last week.Advert"The sign’s exaggerated features, bulging lips and teeth, and darkened skin tone recall the racist caricatures historically used to degrade Black people,” he wrote.Broady’s comments were followed by a now-viral clip, in which TikTok user Anastazia X visited the shop and said the sign was a ‘blackface bagel’.Bo's Bagels has removed the sign following the backlash (Google Maps)She said the mascot was ‘not funny’ and ‘problematic’, she also suggested that other artwork in the store was a ‘little askew’. She said she had reached out to the bagel shop’s owner with her concerns but had been ‘left on read’. The shop’s owner Andrew Martinez has since spoken out about the backlash telling the New York Post that he has had to remove the sign after receiving threats and harassment. He said: “It got completely out of hand by a bunch of people who know nothing about us. And the rage was coming in from people who just wanted to call us racist.”“They’ve reached out to my black employees and said, ‘You need to leave there because your owners hate you,’ and that’s just not true," he added. Martinez said that his company had a great reputation in the local area. “This is actually almost weird to us because Harlemites love us. They know what we do. We donate to schools. We give food away to the homeless shelters,” he said.Anastazia X has also expressed her shock at the response to her video. “I’m sorry that employees and the owner have been harassed as a result of the video,” she said. “That was not my intention and I don’t condone or support any behaviour of that kind.”She said she had reached out to Martinez via email and had hoped that a ‘public conversation’ could take place. Martinez told the Post that he offered to respond to Anastazia X’s email but claims he was ignored. The sign was created by Harlem-based artist Tom Sanford, who has previously created works for the city including caricatures of the New York Knicks that were put on display in the City Hall during the basketball team’s winning streak this summer. Speaking to the New York Post, Sanford defended his work, saying: “Personally, I do not see uptown streetwear culture in a negative light at all. “To me, these items represent overwhelmingly positive cultural contributions that came from the streets of my neighbourhood and crossed over into the mainstream.”LADbible has reached out to Bo's Bagels for comment. Donald Trump Sparks Backlash With ‘New America’ Name Demand

Donald Trump Sparks Backlash With ‘New America’ Name Demand

Updated 23:16 19 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 21:52 19 Oct 2026 GMT+1He said the move should be immediate and would increase 'patriotism'US President Donald Trump has created a firestorm just two weeks before the midterms by demanding that the state of New Mexico be immediately renamed ‘New America’.Taking to his Truth Social platform he said, “New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America.”He added: “we are not Mexico, we are the United States of America!”AdvertTrump insisted that if this name were changed, ‘home values and incomes would rise’ and so would patriotism, reports the Daily Mail.He then reignited the issue of voter fraud in the state saying, “Maybe even the Crooked Elections, that New Mexico is known for, would become honest again!”Trump lost New Mexico in 2016, 2020 and 2024 with no evidence of voter fraud having been found, according to the Associated Press.Trump demanded 'New Mexico' be changed to 'New America' (Truth Social)Trump shared a strange AI-manipulated image last month, showing New Mexico on a map with a new name. It showed ‘Mexico’ crossed out with a red line and ‘America’ written instead.several hours later Trump posted an AI-generated video showing him replacing ‘America’ over a ‘Welcome to New Mexico’ sign.He previously insisted other parts of North America be rebranded – including those affecting neighbors Canada and Mexico. In particular, he ordered the renaming of Lake Ontario the Lake America and the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.New Mexico’s Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham hit back at Trump’s rebranding demands at the time, saying: “New Mexico's name isn't up for debate - it's been ours since before the United States existed.”She insisted the post was a way for Trump to distract the public from his war in Iran: “While the White House wastes time coloring on maps, Nuevo México is busy doing the work.”Despite the charged rhetoric Trump has used over the issue of rebranding territories, the president does not have the executive power to rename US states, including New Mexico.Last month, the Democrats were quick to attack Trump for his demands.Senator Ben Ray Lujan wrote: “It's New Mexico, always has been and always will be. “Just like how you'll always be a sinvergüenza and corrupt,” he added, calling the president in Spanish, a 'shameless person'.Democratic Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury said: “Oh hell no! Our state's name carries generations of history, culture, and family - and it belongs to us. We're New Mexicans. Period.”In August Trump rounded on Canada while signing an Executive Order to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America.Trump even suggested he might change the names of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans (Photo by Alex WROBLEWSKI / AFP via Getty Images)He told reporters at the Oval office he had been thinking about the rebrand ‘for a long time’, then said, “We defend Canada for nothing, we don't get anything.“We love the people of Canada, but their representatives aren't doing an appropriate job.”Trump joked that the world’s oceans could be next in line for a rebrand.“Actually, as you know, we took something called the Gulf of Mexico and we changed it, and now it's very routinely the Gulf of America,” he said. “So, if you think about it, we have a Gulf and we have a lake. Now, all we need is an ocean. So, maybe we'll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific.”This is a breaking news story - more information to followFeatured Image Credit: (Photo by Eric Lee/Getty Images)Topics: Donald Trump

NHS Worker Erika Contu Issues Desperate Plea After Surgery Refusal

Updated 15:44 19 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 14:58 19 Oct 2026 GMT+1She says she wants her breasts to be 'as small as possible' to get her life backAn NHS worker says she desperately needs a breast reduction, as she claims her size 42JJ boobs mean she has to take painkillers daily.Erika Contu said she suffers from back pain so severe it 'radiates' into her shoulders, neck and head, but claims she has been refused surgery on the NHS.The 34-year-old, who is an NHS operating theatre worker, says her breast size causes issues with exercise and work.Erika, from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, said: "I can't sleep properly because of the position - on my side, back or tummy are almost impossible to sleep, I have to turn all the time.Advert"I can't jump, I can't run, even when lifting weights I have to be so careful because my back is so painful."Erika Contu says she wants her breasts to be 'as small as possible' (Kennedy)She has to buy £70 extra-large bras, which leave her with bleeding rashes."I've tried wearing a tank top under my bra to avoid the bra rubbing the skin, but in summer time I come home soaked, it's no life for me."She says there 'are days when it goes into my shoulders, neck and into my head and I'm physically sick' and 'it's getting worse'."People comment on my boobs"At work, x-ray protective gowns will not fit around her chest, meaning she has to leave the room when x-rays are being performed as she cannot be adequately protected from the radiation. Then there are uncalled-for comments, which mean she doesn't want to leave the house, even to walk her dog.Contu says her boobs leave her with bleeding rashes (Kennedy News and Media)"When I wear large clothes people say 'you're wearing all these baggy clothes', and when I wear tight clothes, people comment on my boobs."Erika said she has been denied life-changing NHS surgery, claiming she was told her BMI is too high to qualify. In a desperate attempt to shed the pounds, Erika claims she has had to resort to using the weight loss drug, Mounjaro, and has since dropped 1 stone and 5 pounds. But she says she still needs to lose six more to allow her to qualify, as her BMI of 35 is higher than the NHS target of 27.She explained her pain (Kennedy)Erika said: "I've lost weight, I lose inches everywhere but my breasts are still the same size. Most of my BMI is my breasts. I'm just short (5ft), that's why my BMI is so high.""I can't deal with the pain anymore"She said of the impact her breasts are having on her: "I didn't know what else to do and that's why I opened the GoFundMe."Erika is now trying to raise £5,500 and hopes it’ll leave her breasts 'as small as possible' so that she can 'start living a normal life'.Erika said: "It's not about appearance, it's about my pain. I don't want to be in pain anymore, I want to be comfortable. It's not about looking good, it's the pain that I can't deal with anymore.”Contu wants to raise £5,500 for surgery (Kennedy News and Media)A spokesperson for NHS Norfolk and Suffolk Integrated Care Board (ICB), said: "We are sorry to hear about Ms Contu's experience. While we cannot comment on individual cases, breast reduction surgery is available on the NHS in Norfolk and Suffolk where clinical criteria are met."Clinical criteria are based on national evidence and include a BMI threshold, because surgery carries a significantly higher risk of complications at a higher BMI and health outcomes are better when weight is stable."Where a patient's circumstances are clinically exceptional, their clinician can apply for funding through an Individual Funding Request, which is considered by a clinical panel."We would encourage Ms Contu to discuss this with her GP, or to contact our Patient Experience Team if she would like us to look into her case further."You can donate to Erika's GoFundMe here.Featured Image Credit: KennedyTopics: NHS, Health, UK News

Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, who was delivering a sermon at the time of his deathThe church where a priest died after a heavy crucifix fell from the wall during his sermon, has spoken out for the first time since his death. The tragedy unfolded at the Perpetuo Socorro Church in the Archdiocese of Guayaquil, Ecuador, as Rev. Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari livestreamed the mass on Saturday (October 17).Molinari was preaching during an evening mass when the wooden crucifix detached from the altar wall and fell directly onto his head, knocking him to the floor in front of his congregation. The South American priest was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts of emergency respondents.AdvertNow, church officials have released an update as the Catholic community mourns his sudden loss.Taking to Instagram, the church shared images from a Eucharist service held in memory of the late priest - notably absent from the pictures was the crucifix that caused the accident.Addressing their decision to share photos from the scene, the church penned: “We share the images of the Eucharist in memory of our beloved P. Patrick Alfredo Sanchez Molinari, CSsR., whom the Lord called to his bosom last night, October 17, while celebrating the Holy Mass.Rev. Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari tragically passed away on Saturday after a crucifix, that hung above the alter, fell on him during his sermon (Facebook)“Cardinal Luis Cabrera, OFM. Archbishop of Guayaquil, celebrated the Eucharist, accompanied by the auxiliary bishops, priests, members of the Community of the Holy Redeemer and parishioners.“We appreciate all the messages of condolence from different parts of the world and especially, your prayers for the eternal repose of the soul of P. What Happened to Hang Mioku After Doctors Refused More Fillers?

What Happened to Hang Mioku After Doctors Refused More Fillers?

Updated 13:01 19 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 12:35 19 Oct 2026 GMT+1Hang Mioku injected cooking oil into her face after developing an addiction to plastic surgeryWarning: This article contains graphic images which some readers may find distressingA South Korean model became so addicted to plastic surgery that she began injecting cooking oil into her face after being refused fillers.Hang Mioku was just 28 years old when she underwent her first cosmetic procedure. However, she soon became addicted to having cosmetic treatments in order to enhance her beauty, undergoing further procedures in pursuit of achieving smoother skin.Mioku later moved to Japan to continue her career, where she continued to have cosmetic procedures – all of which left her face considerably swollen and enlarged.AdvertEventually, doctors refused to operate on Mioku, with one physician even suggesting she may have be suffering from a psychological disorder (per The Telegraph).Hang Mioku has been left swollen and disfigured by the procedures (SBS)Mioku briefly received support for her addiction to plastic surgery but soon fell back into her old ways, this time procuring vials of silicone to inject into her own face. When she ran out of silicone, Mioku then started injecting cooking oil into her skin. What happens if you inject cooking oil into your body?It should come as no surprise that injecting cooking oil anywhere into your body is extremely dangerous and can cause various long-term health issues.Research on the adverse effects of injecting oil into the body is thin on the ground, however a study published in the Brazilian Journal of Plastic Surgery revealed that complications such as inflammation, abscesses and hard oedema had been documented in patients who injected oil into their bodies for cosmetic reasons. The oil can also form hard lumps or masses, known as oleoma, under the skin, causing permanent damage to the affected area.A second study, published in Acta Biomedica, revealed complications from tissue damage, such as ulcers, abscesses and fistulas.(SBS)Mioku's addiction to injecting cooking oil became so severe that her face swelled beyond recognition. She was often referred to as the 'standing fan' in her hometown, due to the difference in size between her face and body.As her story gained traction, Mioku was featured in TV documentaries in South Korea, which led to well-wishers sending donations, which allowed Mioku to undergo various corrective surgeries. She has since undergone various operations to remove hundreds of grams of oil, greatly reducing the size of her face, but remains disfigured. The former model now wishes she could have her old face back (SBS)Mioku isn't the only case of extreme disfigurement after injecting cooking oil into the face either, as Mexican actor Lyn May was left permanently disfigured after she was scammed into having unregulated fillers.Like Mioku, May was also left with a swollen face after being injected with a mixture of baby oil, cooking oil, and water.Featured Image Credit: (SBS)

Jonathan Margolis Reveals the 2066 Predictions That Could Reshape Everyday Life

Jonathan Margolis Reveals the 2066 Predictions That Could Reshape Everyday Life

Published 01:37 19 Oct 2026 GMT+1A man who has spent 30 years studying predictions has shared some unusual insights A man who has spent three decades writing about ‘serious future prediction’ has shared some eye-opening insights into what the world may look like in 2066.When it comes to guessing what our future may look like, there are plenty of psychics and mystics who claim to have the answers. For example, before her death in 1996, Baba Vanga is credited with making all sorts of predictions that have since come to fruition and even has some for the end of this year. However, journalist and author Jonathan Margolis has spent the last 30 years looking at ‘serious future predictions’ - meaning not those made by psychics - and has even written a book on the matter, titled A Brief History of Tomorrow, where he analysed what futurologists got right and what they got wrong.AdvertHe also claims to have made several predictions himself that have come true, including ‘the rise of Islamism and the probability of an unprecedentedly extreme terrorist incident’.Writing in a new piece for The Independent, Margolis asked AI bot Cassi to come up with some predictions for 40 years’ time and then he came up with his own.An AI bot shared its predictions for the future (Getty stock image)The AI bot reckoned that we had 21 percent likelihood of being able to biologically de-age ourselves by 2066 (Bryan Johnson will be pleased), and that there was a more than 50 percent chance that news media will no longer be led by humans.Meanwhile, Margolis’ predictions were pretty wide ranging. He warned that the US will no longer be the ‘most significant nation’ and will be replaced by China by 2066 - giving it a prediction likelihood of 80 percent.Margolis noted that while the US will remain the ‘wealthiest nation’, it won’t ‘recover its international prestige post-Trump’.Alongside that, he also said there was a strong 70 percent chance we’ll be faced with a ‘global shortage of children’ due to people opting for smaller families.Worldwide fertility rates have been falling and have dropped by around half since 1950, according to Our World in Data.A falling birthrate can be problematic as it creates an ageing population and sends the the workforce-to-dependent ratio out of whack, which can lead to a shrinking workforce and lower economic output. Margolis went on to joke that by 2066 there will be a 65 percent chance folks will be praying to AI deities ‘because, unlike gods, they may answer their prayers’ and that there’s a solid 99 percent chance we’ll still be battling with printer jams.A falling birth rate could spell out trouble for humanity (Getty stock images) Margolis further predicted that in 40 years time, car ownership in cities will be ‘almost unknown’ with people being shipped around by ‘24-hour free self-driven pods’ instead. However, he did say that cars will still be used in rural areas.Interestingly, those comments do have some data that backs them up.An IPSO survey from May found that while car ownership isn’t dying off just yet ‘the cracks are real’.The 2026 study found that almost half of people - 43 percent - said life without their car would be impossible, but there were two interesting ‘fault lines’ in the data.Firstly, younger people tended to be less likely to say that having a car was essential. And, city-dwellers were also much less likely to say it was impossible to live without a car, with only 37 percent in urban areas compared to 60 percent in rural areas.Featured Image Credit: Alex WROBLEWSKI / AFP via Getty ImagesTopics: World News, Weird

Callina Liang Reveals Extreme Transformation to Become Street Fighter’s Chun-Li

Callina Liang Reveals Extreme Transformation to Become Street Fighter’s Chun-Li

Updated 14:46 18 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 12:08 18 Oct 2026 GMT+1Callina Liang said she was 'on the verge of throwing up'Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, revealed how she changed her body to emulate the First Lady of Fighting Games.Chun-Li is a video game character for the ages, who was first brought to life by CAPCOM’s game franchise back in 1987 Japan, which then later released six more additions to the series, and numerous cross overs and spin-offs.Chun-Li was a staple in the original line-up of characters you could select to fight, but one thing always stood out about her power. She has ginormous muscular thighs. If there was anyone in the real-world you wouldn’t want to receive a kick from, it would be Chun-Li.AdvertSo, when Legendary Pictures and Paramount Pictures decided to bring the games to life in its live action that’s due to be released next month, Chun-Li was a clear choice to focus the story on.You wouldn't want to be kicked by Chun-Li (CAPCOM)However, the person cast had some mighty big boots (and thighs) to fill, which is why Liang ended up going through a tough time in an attempt to grow her muscles for the role.Per the game developers, Chun-Li is a ‘former high-kicking ICPO agent, Chun-Li looks after Li-Fen, a victim of the Black Moon Incident.’It revealed of her back story: “With Shadaloo sundered, she now runs kung fu classes, and has become a well-loved member of the local community.”Need I say more. She’s a kicker by name and by trade.Liang knew this was part of the character she had to emulate, and so began her rigorous martial arts workout routine and high-protein diet to help grow her muscles. But it wasn’t without its side effects."Chun-Li is all kicks. So we did a bunch of Taekwondo training, Muay Thai, and Wushu (Kung Fu). I did two hours of that a day and strengthened my legs a lot and changed my diet drastically. When I was bulking, I ate 12 eggs a day. Every two hours I had to have a meal, and I was on the verge of throwing up. But it worked. By the end of the shoot, my thighs had grown six-and-a-half centimeters each (2.6in),” she said in an interview with Empire Magazine.Callina Liang says she was almost sick thanks to her extreme routine (Instagram/callina.liang)She went on to say she downloaded all of the Street Fighter games onto her PlayStation 5, so she could study the character’s fighting style.Like her ‘Hyakuretsukyaku’ (Lightning Kick)."I downloaded every single version of Street Fighter onto a PS5 and I recorded all of Chun-Li's moves during fights on my phone in slow-mo, so I could play them back and study them," she added. The flick will be released in theaters on October 16, 2026.Street Fighter fans already seem split on whether the movie will flop or not.Replying to the trailer online, one supporter said: "Looks wildly ridiculous, goofy and over the top in all the right ways."Another added: "Hadouken! Callina Liang Reveals Extreme Routine Behind Her Chun-Li Transformation

Callina Liang Reveals Extreme Routine Behind Her Chun-Li Transformation

This trailer looks straight out of the arcade. Momoa as a villain? Ken & Ryu vibes hitting different."Someone else wrote: "This shh looks pointless out of all the video games with actual storylines they picked this why..."A user then concluded: "At this point they're just recycling nostalgia and hope we won't notice.
